Hi everyone!

So, the date is here. It is time for me to finish my change of status packet.

I will go from being a conditional resident to a permanent recident.

I have a couple of "problems".

When it comes to the evidence, there is many things that my hubby and I don't have and I'm afraid that it will look bad!

1. We don't have a lease or utility bills on our name...why? Because we are living in my in-law's ranch. We just split the bill :/ so unfortunately we don't have it to our names.  I'm guessing that since I plan on sending affidavits, that one of them be my mother in law stating these facts...what do you guys think?

2. My driver's license has the address of where we live and for some reason my husband has his with a p.o. box of a property his family has in another little town near where we live. But his handgun permit card DOES have the address of where we live.

3. We don't have kids. Ugh...why? Because we have decided we want to enjoy our marriage as much as we can without a child. Then maybe in the future we may have kids, but we just don't want any at the time.  Will this look bad? Haha

4. Would printing out text messages thst we send each other be good? We literally have THOUSANDS. Obviously I would only print a few of every other month since we have been married. Or something like that?

My green card's expires on June 6, 2017.

And we are located in the north east side of Texas.

Everyone's documentation is different.  Other than the REQUIRED items, whatever else you send will help to prove your case.

1.  The affidavit should state your living arrangements.  If you help with the money around the ranch, then the affidavit should state exactly how you contribute (BOTH of you!).  For example - if you/your husband give money to his parents to help pay for expenses, then hopefully, your Mother-in-Law can show the deposits on HER bank statements.  Or you can show transfers to her account on YOUR statements.

2.  Driver's licenses are not required, but helpful.  Include your husband's gun permit and explain that his DL has a PO box because.....

3.  Laughing at this one.  We are both 60 years old - so kids are not an option.

4.  Forget text messages.  They want FINANCIAL evidence.  You haven't mentioned a single bit of financial evidence.  I'm sure you have it - but just didn't have a question about it.

Good luck.  Nothing in your post is a "problem".  Just explain stuff.

1) Your mother-in-law's affidavit will explain the nonexistence of joint utility bills between you and your husband.

2) I don't think this should be an issue assuming the address you have on yours is your mother-in-law's ranch address.

3) Wow this is totally personal and up to a couple! Shouldn't be an issue.

4) I am sure this would help prove continuous relationship/married life/couple communication.

My two cents:  First study the ROC guides.  Think about what you two have done from your marriage to now.  Have a joint checking account?  Great.  Instead of us sending every bank statement in our ROC package we went to our credit union (which is a very large one).  We had one of the bank officials write a letter stating when my wife was put on my accounts (checking, saving, money market, IRA, etc) and balances.  After we got married we were looking to join a new church which we did.  The church wrote a letter stating when we both joined and I also supplied the church tithe statement we use for the deduction on our tax return that showed we gave each Sunday.  Our Sunday school class has a directory that has every member's picture, address, and email address.  I sent the entire Sunday school directory with my ROC package.  My suggestion is to have your husband get a new drivers license with the correct address.  I know at least in Georgia your license better have your correct street address and I do not think PO boxes are authorized as they need a physical address.  Get your IRS tax transcripts now.  Get a will and a power of attorney and send that with the ROC.  Both of you need to sit down and brain storm to think of anything and everything you have done together that will build proof this is a real marriage.

God bless

John

Hi fernanda08 :)

1) I would just explain my living situation on a separate piece of paper and include it in my ROC packet.

If you super worried about  bills maybe you guys can get a cell phone plan together or joined gym membership.

2) Your husband can update adress on his DL they will send a new one in couple weeks.

3) No kids no problem ;)

4) I would not worried about the text messages.

Good luck with putting your packet together.

I agree with Sukie.  Affidavits, although everybody mentions them, are practically useless since you can obtain an affidavit from a friend even if you are a serial killer.  The most important documents are those that illustrate financial mingling of funds such as joint bank account, at least 3 years of joint tax returns, joint life or health insurances, leases with both of your names, etc.

Fernanda, please do the required reading.  If you search long enough in this website, you will surely find a section that deals in utmost detail on how to organize the packet you are about to send.  There is a section on cover letters, etc.  Please read and if you are not able to find the info, then come to the forums.
