Recent Travels with Canadian Passport to USA

Hi all,

 

With all that's been going on recently, some people that are born in Canada and have a Canadian Passport were denied entry and was told that they needed a visa.

(Was on news, woman from Montreal denied entry even though she's Canadian born, holds a Canadian Passport and has no Criminal records Montreal Woman Denied Entry)

 

I think that we wouldn't need a visa, but thought I ask fellow VJers if anyone residing in Canada, holding a Canadian Passport has recently traveled to the United States had any issues.

I have people coming to the use and had no problem.. if you are from those certain 7/8 countries, even though you are a Canadian Citizen they are having problems!! so if you are from one of those banned countries, you will prob have a problem.. if not, you will be ok

Thank you both for your prompt replies.

We're not from those certain 7 countries, so hope all will go well.  My neices and nephew are going to Disneyland, don't want to ruin their Spring Break

The media really irks me about these refusals. First, the anti-Trumpers get on the bandwagon without really processing why the people were denied entrance or scheduled for deportation. Then a couple of days later, just casually the press says..oh they have been illegal for like 10 years, over stayers and involved in drugs...smh...

 

This then scares legitimate travellers like yourself.!!

The media isn't giving the full story. I'm betting that the woman is probably a dual-citizen with the 7 countries that have been barred, or something else happened. You should be fine.

No - their isnt more.. people with 'muslim' background even tho they are a canadian citizen are being denied entry.. its happening alot!  Canadian Citizens that were born in a muslim country or their parents are muslim are having a very hard time coming thru. like i said, if you are not from a muslim country u wont have a problem.

The article says she was born to Indian parents, not parents from any of the 6 mentioned countries. 

 

They're obviously not telling the whole story, you don't just get turned away at the border for no reason. They're hiding something.

People do get turned away at the border for very little reason. In this case the immigration officer seems to have believed she was coming with the intent to immigrate. (I think her fiance might be a US citizen, although he, too, lives in Canada.) She had been stopped once before in December, but was eventually allowed to enter the US that time.

The Border Officer told her that there were no flags on her file, but that he/she believed the woman was intending to immigrate, despite whatever evidence she had to the contrary.

If that's what they believed the that's a perfectly valid reason to turn her away. If that's what they believed then it wasn't for no reason. It's their job, that's what they were hired to do.

You just said you think her fiance might also be a US citizen? That is reason enough for immigrant intent. Plus, you really don't know her background. This is nothing new really. US Immigration is tough for good reason.

What is missed is: has anyone take a light to Toronto's Pearson Airport? Waiting in line at Canadia Immigration I was shocked to see the number of families who are muslim, women replete with burkas. I am assuming these people are 'vetted'? This is NOT racial, but let's face it. This is the pink elephant in the room.

I was just across the border a few weeks ago using my enhanced driver's license with no problems. Mind you I go across at my small border crossing and when they ask where I am from I say it they laugh and say you aren't far. I live in a small village in manitoba six miles from the us border. LOL Never had any trouble even when saying I was going to meet my fiance. Only question asked was how did you meet them and where do you work. Oh have a nice day. Although I think the fact that I am the Assistant Administrator of a Public Library helps because it doesn't sound like a job I would be leaving anytime soon. LOL
