This is only flying in and out of the UK. I used to live in London and I couldn't bring my cat from London to Spain because the UK doesn't allow pets in the cabin. I ended up using a 3-day-truck-trip because it was around 300 pounds. The flight from UK to Spain was around 800 pounds, I don't wanna think about UK-USA..

Yeah, I'm contemplating driving them to somewhere in Northern Europe to allow them to be in the cabin but the drive will probably be just as stressful. My quote for 3 cats, being driven to London the night before, vet checks and flights and a representative to meet them at Chicago is almost £2000. But I can't live without my fur babies so I'm paying it :/

Not to mention that in the UK you have to pay for breathing.. haha

This afternoon I'll go to the vet to start getting all the vaccinations and paperwork ready. I'm sorry to ask here because it's not my post, but as we are talking about bringing cats to the US and I have to bring 2.. what documents do I need? Passports? Or what exactly do I need?

Thank you in advance!

I know you asked about cats but I have two small dogs, so they are basically cat-sized. ;) My now-husband-then=fiance took one of my dogs last time he was flying from Poland to US (he's US citizen). We booked the flight for the dog earlier, we had appropriate documentation (EU pet passport, rabies shots etc) and the dog was with him, underneath the seat, in an appropriate transporter. I have two Sleepypod Air transporters. They are awesome cause they are made from fabric and you can squeeze them underneath the seat easily.

I flew in with the second dog as I was arriving on my K1 visa. Same thing - the dog was with me, appropriate documentation, Sleepypod Air.

It honestly wan't that difficult, obviously I was stressed, but all went okay. :)

I also didn't paid that much. The cost of flight for the dog was around 100 usd per each, documentation for one dog around 45 usd per each (including EU pet passport). The biggest cost was transporter (one was like 150 usd). So overall the whole cost was probably around 600 usd for both dogs. We still use transporters btw when they travel in the car, so I definitely recommend them and it won't be one time use.

Thank you guys for all the helpful information. Makes me feel a little bit better knowing that there is other folks with the same 'issue' here. I just want them to have the most comfortable travel arrangements. It is a long journey and i just want them to be ok.

I alraedy have their EU Passports with rabies shots. I read online that America doesn't really care about anything else but the rabies shots if the cats are from the EU.

What airline did you fly with? We haven't booked our flights yet (even though we found very good offers) because we want to make sure they allow pets in the flights. The airlines we've seen are Norwegian and TAP Portugal. Do you guys have any information about this? We have them ready for travel, rabies shots, documentation, etc.. (only the transporter is left).

I'm bringing mine from the UK. I am not allowed them in the cabin. They have to go in the hold. I'm so worried. They also advise against any form of medication as it can interfere with their breathing and cause issues, even stopping their breathing altogether.

I ship animals to the states every year.   Give PetAirUK a call.. ask for Bob ...

Use United Petsafe .  here's a little bit of behind the scenes of what happens with your pet ...

I will be sending my own animals September time when we head back to the States and would trust United with mine every time.

Good luck

Is it possible to know the price for that? Wouldn't it be cheaper to bring it to another EU country? I booked my flight for May 26, and so did for my two cats. I'm paying 150€ per cat, and they fly in the cabin with me and my fiance. With TAP Portugal, veeeeeeeery good deal for all of us.

I suppose it depends on how easy it is for a person to get their pet and theirselves to an airport that will allow it.

In the UK its not possible

Cost wise.. aprox GBP 640 is what i paid last year for one crate.. but a second wouldn't have been quite so expensive. probably around another 200 .
