My husband got a job offer that expires may 15th he can't seem to get a date to do the road test, he has been here (in the us)from January 20th and he has the permit and 5 hour class. The post office it taking forever to get the plastic one mailed to him. We are so lost.

And  how long does it take for him to get credit.

This process drived me mad but is coming to a end thank God. ???

What do you mean the post office is taking long to get the plastic one mailed to him? I'm confused. If he hasn't done the road test then there shouldn't be anything in the mail and the DMV would be mailing it.

In any case... when I went to take my written test they didn't have road test appointments for 3 months! I looked shocked and the guy asked if I wanted him to ask his supervisor if I could do it that day. I said yes (phew, was relieved). He said no promises, but came back saying the supervisor had said yes. Perhaps, if there is no place that does walk-ins for the road test, you could go to different DMV's and kindly try to explain the situation and plea to have the road test done sooner. Just a suggestion.

As for credit... it'll take about 6 months (in some cases can be done sooner) of continuous timely payments on a credit card or another credit before a FICO score can be generated. Best way is to keep utilization between 10-20% and pay off in full after each closing date. Also make sure the credit company/bank reports to all 3 bureaus.

Yeah, I got it after your other post :) Well, presumably if it hasn't arrived in 3 weeks it would be lost? Can they send you another one? Good luck tomorrow!

Unless the job involves driving a vehicle, his passport/visa and work permit card should cover it - that sounds strange.

Our insurance company covers people with foreign drivers licenses for one year. Does he have one? If so, perhaps the company could use that in the meantime?

Sorry, I don't have any advice on the actual DMV other than to be prepared to make multiple visits and to wait hours in line. <_<

Hello, we are in New York too. Just like other states, the process is long and tedious, but 'very' necessary. The Examiner would want the original 'plastic' copy of the Learner's Permit yes for him to take the test. I could call Albany at the (518) AC and they are actually really good about sending out a replacement.

I would go on the DMV Website and book update. I don't know where in NYS you are but Peekskill or New Rochelle are options as is White Plains. The Peekskill one is reputed to be the easy one. However, all are strict as far as the test and paperwork goes. Absolutely justified.

Once he gets approved for the test, he gets a paper slip, followed by the 'plastic original' in the mail. Only will be valid for the duration of his lawfully admitted duration of stay.
