My fiancé will be here in a week. What can I do to make his move/transition easier.

I'm most worried about him being bored all day while I'm at work. Any ideas of what he can do to keep busy until he is allowed to work or go to school?

There are a great many threads on this topic.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I actually registered my fiancé in one of those online CCNA certification courses. That pretty much takes up much of his time while I'm at work. Before he moved to America I always reminded him that for at least 3 months or more he won't be able to work. Either way they are all eventually gonna get bored. So I got a PlayStation 4 game for him because African men love the FIFA soccer ⚽️ video game.

Congrats on your process thus far, I know it hasn't been an easy road. I would suggest once your fiance' arrives y'all should just get started with the process as it also takes about 5-6 months from start to finish.. (Once you guys get married, apply for a SS card for him ASAP) My fiance was home for 6 months until he got his green card to work. It was a very long, boring, lonely and depressing period for him, although I agree getting him Playstation helped a lot.. :)... Also find out what his interests are and get him started right away. He should work on his resume and tailor it to the American standard, he should also be looking at prospective jobs and their requirements so he can familiarize himself with what is being requested. I would also suggest taking up some certifications in his field of study or if he's switching careers, he should start self studying so he can get certified. All these will keep him busy whiles you're at work, so he won't feel broed and lonely. I hope this helps, please don't hesitate to send questions my way, I'll be more than happy to help any way I can... Best of luck! :)

So happy for you, I cant wait until that day comes for us!!! :D

I've been thinking about that as well, I just bought a house and I want to do some small renovations so I am planning to keep him very busy with that until he can work as he's very handy. In addition, I will see if there's any certificates or licenses he may need to work in his industry here if so, he can enroll in those classes and hopefully attend while I'm at work. Unfortunately, he's not a gamer and I really don't want to turn him into one so Xbox, Play stations etc.are not an option for us. My goal is to keep him busy and productive during his downtime, he will definitely not be sitting around all day watching TV, playing games, napping etc. while I'm at work. Nope we will not be doing that, I will certainly find him something to do as there is always something to be done!

Now that's funny! Torture?  Not even close, he’s my heart and he’ll be well cared for I’m just saying he can’t sit around and be idle all day nor would he want to...he's a borderline workaholic now and he likes to stay busy. If he's stuck in the house all day he would be extremely bored, isolated and miserable. He would much rather be actively engaged in something productive than doing nothing sitting around wasting time until he's able to work... and it was actually his idea to handle the home renovations, he wants to help out much as possible... one of the many reasons why I love him.
