If a place like the Philippines can figure out marijuana has valid medical uses why can't our federal government. This is actually one area I oppose the Trump administration on (not that Obama was any better on this subject).

I don't smoke weed but I have relatives in a state where it is legal for medical purposes and it helps them with things prescription drugs couldn't. By the way no one knows it all. I disagree with Trump on some things but overall he is a million times better than Hillary would have been. On a side note I remember reading a couple years ago that the Catholic Church in the Philippines was actually pushing for medical marijuana believe it or not.

I'm for medical use of marijuana.

Just to let everyone that I hate marijuana and everything it stands for, and the smell. I used to be married to a weed head and hated it.

But if medical marijuana helps cut down on the epidemic of opioid abuse then I am all for it. Because opioid abuse is far worse than anything we could think of right now. have known several people to die from it that probably needed medical marijuana.

I have severe back pain sometimes and could easily get a prescription for an opioid pain killer but I would rather deal with the pain than do that. If I lived in a state with medical marijuana I would be using it for my back pain. In my younger days I smoked marijuana on occasion and I am aware of its pain relieving properties. Now I have a family and the legal risk just isn't worth it to me. There are so many other things it helps with besides pain. It really is a miracle drug and the research done so far hasn't even scratched the surface of what it can be used for.

Personally I am for decriminalizing all drugs because it takes the money away from the cartels and turns it into tax revenue. Not to mention I have never heard of a street dealer checking IDs for age. There are a lot of idiots out there who will use drugs regardless of legality. Why don't we get control of the situation with government regulation rather than having a free for all in the black market?

control of the situation with government regulation

Too much already in too many situations.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Agreed. I should have worded that differently. The phrase you quoted does sound bad when I go back and read it a couple times. If you think about it though decriminalization will actually result in less regulation. Instead of the government locking people up and/or fining them for drug use they would simply be there to make sure only adults had access to drugs and possibly implement taxes. In other words pretty much treat drugs like alcohol.

There may be a better solution out there than mine but I think it is better than locking up people with a medical problem (drug addiction) at taxpayers expense and allowing cartels and other criminals to have total control over drug sales through the black market.

I will say our current system for all its flaws is better than the Philippines where you can be killed for even being suspected of a drug crime without a trial or get years in prison for a single joint. I was surprised to read they legalized medical marijuana. If you read the article though there are still stiff penalties for recreational use.

I would give Trump a 5 out of 10 so far, but chances are Hillary would have gotten a 3.

The smell actually doesn't bother me, I guess you get used to it. Plus it doesn't have to be smoked. As I have mentioned before, I have around me 24/7 weed, hash, in the form of cookies, crackers, brownies, butter and even mint thins. Even though it surrounds me(wife has medical) I have not touched it since I was a teen, so I don't understand why it is so hard for some people to resist temptation. You did hit the nail on the head with opioids, not only because of the addictions they cause but also the other problems(many of them are bad for your liver, etc)...and then they wonder why people end up with so many issues. At least marijuana doesn't cause these issues.

I got used to the smell as well when I lived with my x-wife, but I guess now I associate the smell to my deadbeat x-wife. I know it's a bad thing to do guilt by association like that but that's how I feel honestly. It literally surrounded me when I was married to her, but it certainly was not for medical usage that's for sure. But I only smoked it once while I was married to her to try and "bond" with her I guess. The scourge of opioid abuse is what is killing middle america now and that's really sad, because a number of families are being affected by it. But it also leads into meth and heroin usage, which I have seen first hand.

I have yet to hard evidence that cannabis kills cancer but I know some people say that. But it does help with the pain and the appetite for cancer sufferers.

I don't know that smoking it kills cancer but I have seen recent studies that THC injected directly into cancer cells does kill cancer. Like I said before a lot more research needs to be done because we are just scratching the surface with what we already know.

Yeah, it can kill cancer cells, that doesn't mean yet that it kills cancer.

I have heard this as well but I have tried to look further into that claim and I can only get that information from the pro-marijuana sites. So I don't know what to think honestly but I do think more research needs to be done. I know it has been verified that THC has actually helped limit and stop people from getting seizures. I heard of a child who literally had 50 seizures a day of some degree of intensity, the child literally could not do anything due to the risk of seizures. So the family had to move to Colorado from I think NC for a medical THC oil treatment. It helped reduce the child's seizures down to literally single digits within days, and they can even count the days between a seizure now. So I do think it's a good thing and I think more research needs to be done to verify and see the benefits of what THC can be done to help others. This is much better than stuffing drugs down people's throats.
