10th day in US what to form or legalities need to apply next?

Hi Guys..I am quite confuse on what to apply next. As of today I am on my 10th day already here in US. And our wedding plan will be on April 21, 2017. Is it advisable to apply already my SSN or is there any other things that we should apply first?

Hi there,

Are you in America on your K1 visa? If so, definitely apply for your SSN now. Fill out the Social Security form and also take with you your I-94, birth certificate and passport. I had trouble getting my SSN as the people at the building did not know the visas well enough, so if they say you can not get one, do not listen to them and ask to speak to a supervisor.

 

Once you have your SSN you can begin to start your new life, opening a bank account, getting a credit card etc.

After your wedding (whenever possible, there is no deadline) apply for Adjustment of Status (AOS). The guides are at the top of the page for SSN and AOS.

Try to apply for State ID, it will be easier for you to open bank accounts and stuffs such as including ur name on bills.

SSN - follow the guide on VJ.

Assuming you have a marriage license already there's nothing much else to do until you get married. Once married, then obtain several copies of marriage certificate from the clerk of the court. You will need them.

File for your AOS (with EAD/AP) after marriage.

Health Insurance - make sure your spouse adds you to their work plan (if they have one), purchase your own privately through any insurer to your state, or sign up to Obamacare. You will be eligible. If for some reason you don't have an SSN it is not a reason for denial, but having one can make the process easier. Do not wait too long.

You can be added to a spouse's bank account/bills etc.

Most DMV's will give you a lot of fuss trying to obtain an ID or a driver's license until you have your EAD at the earliest (see state website for further regulations). Go back after you have your green card to update it (update your SSN too).
