Today I ballsed up. Hugely.

Long story short, I turned up at my Visa interview in London without my original birth certificate. I got sent away but I'm unsure what to do from here.

I've logged into my  US Department of State Visa appointment service account and it's instrcuted me to print out a Courier-In Authorization certificate. Is it just a case of sending in my birth certificate?

Will I need to reschedule an apppointment and pay a fee again?

Any input on this is much appreciated.

Edit: I'm applying for a K-1 Visa if this makes any difference.

Simon.

Did they send you out the door without going to the interview? Usually they go on with the interview, but can't approve until they have each required document.

First  time called up: turn in documents

Second time called up: interview

If you made it to the interview and were asked a few questions, then you don't have to go back. You have the courier pick up your birth certificate and passport to take to the embassy. They will process your visa and send it back by courier. Allow two weeks---one for them to get back to your case and approve and another to process visa and send back.

Yup. :(

I didn't want to come across as confrontational thus didn't question the lady at the window, but I was shocked to say the least. Bar my Birth Certificate I had everything I needed. Police Check, Passport, Affadavit of support, photos and a load of other docs I took just in case.

I sat back down and rifled through my belongings to no avail. Spoke to another member of staff who confirmed I couldn't proceed. I'll be the first to admit that I'm at fault for not bringing everything I needed but the attitude of the clerk who spoke to me was frankly, awful. Abrupt. No compassion.

I've now sent all the required items to the embassy via the Courier-In Authorization service as I was instructed, however I'm clueless as to where I'll go from here.

I'm assuming it'll be a case of the embassy rescheduling me an appointment? If that's the case I'm worried they'll give me a date months from now.

All input on this is much appreciated.

I don't know what will happen. I haven't heard of anybody being sent away like that.  There is a contact the embassy web form for emailing questions. You might as well do that now rather than waiting for something to happen. Explain you were sent away on [date] prior to speaking to the interview officer and told to courier your missing birth certificate which you did on [date]. Ask them what else you need to do.
