Traveling on AP for 1.5 months with a potential AOS interview coming up

Hello everyone!

On February 15th, I applied for marriage based AOS along with AP and EAD. I'm expecting to receive my travel documents in May or June at the latest based on the average processing times. My husband (USC) and I are planning to go visit my family in Sweden for 4-6 weeks in July. We're planning to return mid August. I'm getting a bit nervous that during this time we would receive a notice for the AOS interview (we will have someone checking the mail for us) and would have to return. For a USC to visit Sweden, they need to provide a return ticket to be admitted into the country. So, that means we would have to purchase return tickets prior to leaving and run into the risk of having to cancel them. Have any of you had any experience with this type of travel? Do you know of some kind of travel insurance that allows this type of immigration based cancellation?

I've read some forums about USC visiting the Schengen area without a return ticket but simply explaining the situation. Have any of you experienced this? I know this is a bit beyond US immigration, but I would love to hear anyone's thoughts or stories if you have them. Thanks!

We have seen it happen. There was a member who got an interview notice while she was away. Never made it to the interview and her AOS was denied. had to start over.

It is good you will have someone checking your mail. If you receive an interview date you can ask to reschedule until after you return.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I've heard that USCIS is really bad about rescheduling AOS interviews and often times people end up getting rejected. I don't think I would be rescheduling the interview itself, if anything I'd have to change our flights. Thanks though!
