You should look up and see N400 timelines for your office. It really varies. My office of Boston is slower than some others. There's no real way to compare N400 times nationwide.

Could you put the link here to look up local office timelines?  I poked around the site but couldn't find it.

Annnd I found it.  Thanks ^_^

Our I-751 was transferred and took a year until approval. I had to get our senator involved because it was past the processing time and I was very ill at the time.

I think we were close to the 3 year date when we were finally approved. It we decided to take some time off from the immigration process. They were zippy for N400 back then.

My I-751 is pending too, but I did go ahead and sent my N-400 yesterday.

Definitely.  In our case the ROC was 13 months in processing, and if one believes the published processing times of CSC, we were looking at another 3-4 months, so we went ahead and filed my wife’s N400 in mid-January.  Interview in Detroit is already scheduled for April 10th.  We know the ROC has to be approved as well, but most of the stories we read show that the ROC is dumped to the local office when an N400 is submitted, and they handle both.

To the OP, if naturalization is the ultimate goal, why wait.  Get the N400 clock started, and as @Harmonia said, these are governed by local office processing times, which vary nationwide.

Good Luck!

The ROC will be transferred to the local office if you submit the N400.  You don’t have to have an approved ROC to file the N400, but the ROC has to be completed before naturalization can be granted which will now be handled by the local office.

Hi everyone, my form I751 ROC was filed at seattle, and which will take forever I guess,so I decide to file N400 while I am waiting for the ROC, but I found that portland which is only 4 hours away from seattle processing time for N400 is much faster, so could I file N400 to the portland local office instead of seattle office?

Thanks

Filing the N-400 while the I-751 is still pending is a smart move as it forces the adjudication of the RoC petition. It's the equivalent of a reminder to the USCIS to get off the couch and do their job.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

How was the N400 interview ? Did your spouse go with you ? Did they ask questions to your spouse ?
