i've had women managers but higher-ups - always male. the women i've worked for were far more professional, reliable and actually, ethical than any male i've worked for. i've seen the workplace managerial bromance phenomenon bcking referred to as well.

i've also been a manager in retail, imo men do not like working for women. in my experience, assigning tasks to men is a very delicate matter. best to trick them into thinking they're doing a task of their own volition.

how's that for stereotypes and generalities? stupid personal anecdotes..

My wife has mentioned that phenomena with assigning jobs to men all the time! She says at a meeting she always had to try to phrase it in such a way that the man thinks it was his idea. He is much more likely to do the job well when she does that.

Look on the positive side, we're allowed to be misogynistic for another 364 days now

i remember the first time i had to write up a guy (for being drunk on the job, but i couldn't say he was drunk on the job because higher management didn't want him fired - but he had the gout so..a warning was issued) and his literal first words - before even reading the write up? "f y b" if ya wanna fill in the blanks.

i was expected to 'let that slide' because he was angry and apparently that was understandable.

also found out about a year later that guy was making more money than me and i was his manager. also had seniority.

Sadly you scenario is not unique.

My wife's office had a guy who basically everyone at his level, including other men, knew he was useless. He did no work, walked around trying to share YouTube videos with people (negative of an open plan office...). He accomplished in a year about what my wife or one of her team members would do in 2-3 months.

He played golf and hung out with someone above his manager. During a takeover he was "protected" and guaranteed a job. The company gave up some of their most productive people in exchange for him. Everyone figures that one day his uselessness will become apparent, but it hasn't happened yet.

Most men can't even comprehend proper etiquette in a mixed work environment. My wife works in an office that is 2/3rds men and the stories she tells me about the use of foul language and all around unacceptable behavior are never ending. If she were to speak up about it or go to management, she would be the the one considered to be out of line. After all they're just guys being guys yanno.

The more my wife tells me about work at her office, the more I realise how lucky I am that my field is better about equal treatment. Not perfect, but better. She says the exact same thing and I'm always confused why she doesn't have a means of speaking up about it. She keeps telling me it would become her problem and reflect on her, not on the people who are inappropriate, borderline harassers or are just not doing their job.

one of the great things about working for a small company owned by a foul mouthed dude is my nonchalance concerning obscenity makes me "trust worthy". my boss doesn't have to self censor or apologize for whatever when i'm around. so guess what..i'm wanted around. i seriously think this might be one of the reasons i've been here as long as i have. dudes at all levels feel comfortable in my presence, like she's one of the guys (but not really and doesn't cost as much).

I am the only woman who works in my office -- our lead litigator is a woman, but works out of her own home. The guys who work here -- even the Millennial Co-worker who is the source of much despair/merriment -- are deeply respectful of me as a person, not as a Special Magic Lady Person who is on a pedestal. This is one of the least problematic workplaces I've ever worked in that was run by a man, and nearly every place I have worked has been headed by a man. On the other hand, since I am the only woman in the office, I am also apparently Mom to everyone, and therefore know how to fix everything and where everything is located and what the weather will be this weekend and and and... :-/

Its amazing to me that on this board such blatant sexist and prejudicial comments are allowed to be made. Not only am I deeply offended, I am devastated  that in the 21st century such gender bias and broad generalizations can occur.

Imagine the uproar if I had said that the "Majority" race people I had worked for were more professional, reliable, and more ethical and that minorities did not like working for Majority people, and that Majority people were harder workers.

Such a broad stereotypical comment would cause an uproar , would it not. As it should.

I just may need therapy now. I am far to deviated to work the rest of the day

I find in these circumstances a need to retreat to my safe space, what else can you do?

PS leave the lap top behind.
