It's pretty easy to get K1 approved if you demonstrate you are in genuine relationship. The officer thinks you are married?! You are not telling your story completely. 

No. It is not easy for many couples and you did AOS here while already in the US so no.

Let me clarify my comment that 'they don't care'. By that I mean that they would still issue a visa if strong ties are proven to his

country and they see he is otherwise eligible for a visa.

If they feel he just wants out of his country or has a fiance in the US then that can complicate things
as he would likely be denied. But just because someone was denied a visa here does not mean they will be denied

in Canada also and that is what was meant by 'they do not care'.

I just would like to add that I did submit a claim  with the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman U.S. Department of Homeland Security to address the code and interview denial issue, since it seemed there may have been a mistake in Lagos on reviewing my K-1 Visa petition. Who knows what they will say or do, but I am satisfied I tried every resort. (thanks to the advice from members that reached out to me from this site) After doing everything I can on my end, filing a case, reaching out to senators, asking questions, etc. I believe someone will look at the details of my case and review it accordingly. No need for a lawyer. In the meantime, I will keep everyone updated on the result. Its very interesting how my case got handled and then was given an unexpected denial code as a result. I really thought my fiancee would be banned the day he told me how everything went down. So I will let everyone know what I found out if I hear anything else regarding that K-1 visa petition that may just expire. Who cares anyway. I am going to CANADA!! . I am so greatfull I had you guys to run too in the hardest moments of my life. Thank you everyone for all of your advice and support on this thread and I will update with pictures soon! Hugs

 

I know you are dead set on meeting in Canada and are hopeful again after the bad news of refusal of your K1 and I

hate to bust your bubble but it is very likely that he will not be approved for a visa to Canada.
I don't understand why you quoted it would cost you $10.000 to make a trip to Nigeria.
You can travel by yourself for 2 weeks (if you can not stay longer) and marry and establish evidence of a genuine

relationship for 1/3 of that amount. You can not be rigid in petitioning someone from another country and must be flexible

to go with the flow or wait a few years until your kids are older and then travel if you don't want to leave them with family

or friends. With immigration things usually do not go as planned or how we would like them to turn out. I am really sorry.

Yeah, it may be tough. I think from the last I read he doesn't have a job there, and in reality he plans on leaving to come into the US asap, so it may be very hard for them to believe that he plans on going back to Nigeria after coming into Canada. And saying "Well we want to live in the US not Canada" doesn't really cut it with them.



To the OP, Is there any reason why you can't marry in Nigeria?

Ticket, with good planning (Jan - Feb) 30 days was $715 on KLM (purchased from Delta). Mr. should be able to take care of accommodation, food and internal transport. Maybe another $500 (N250,000) for pocket money.

 

Sometimes folks overthink these things.

  Tickets from Alaska don't get that cheap but they do get to under 1200.   Depending on the arrangements at his compound a hotel might be needed but a livable one can be had for 50 or so a night.

And...the kids don't have to miss out. Check out my hands...that's our son, front and center at our civil wedding. FaceTime and WhatsApp video are great.

The kids can "be there," your fiancé can have some Africanwear sewed for you, learn to tie a gele, see the country, meet the people, have a wonderful time.

I added wedding costs, dress, food etc. Not sure if he has a job to pay for accommodation and if she would prefer to stay in a

hotel rather than with family or his place.

Wedding would have to be done either way, and is likely much cheaper there than in the US.

Yes, $3000 is the number I came up with for everything for 2 weeks there. It is doable.

I bought the fabric for our civil wedding on Etsy. $125 for 12 yards. We had my gown, my husbands clothes, and a gown for my mother-in-law sewed for 19,000 Naira. Fabric can be found in Lagos for cheaper than that. Our traditional Yoruba wedding clothes are being sewed now, for our marriage convalidation in the Catholic Church, next month. I'd have to ask my husband what the fabric cost, but it wasn't bad - and includes a cord lace buba for me. Again, the sewing is going to run about 19,000 Naira. 

You can have a beautiful, and unforgettable wedding in Nigeria for a very reasonable cost. 

We spent less than $200 to feed our guests, at our reception - and everyone ate and drank well.
