N-400 Filers who got stuck or delayed in Background / Name Check.

Yes I did an infopass. No timeline unfortunately.

Just checking in here again... No progress on my case. I am still stuck in the fingerprints stage, no in-line in sight. Four months since biometrics and counting.

All these delays due to the background checks vary totally from one applicant to another and especially from one IO to another. They are human too with some work load, some might obviously be more productive than other.

 

Sometimes, it really seems like it depends on the applicants' luck and whoever is the immigration officer looking into their file.

 

I have a friend whose application has been pending now for 5 months, some including USCIS might say she is still within a normal processing time but she is an active duty service member who might deploy anytime on a short notice.

 

I was chocked when she mentioned that there are thousands of military personnel whose application get stuck for over 8-12 months and that it is very common.

 

You would think it is faster military personnel but unfortunately they get stuck as everyone else. 

 

Sometime as a reward for their patience, they are invited to the white house for their naturalization ceremony or stuff like that according to her.

 

In fact there are a lot of civillians whose process get completed a whole lot faster than military applications.

 

The point is, it really seems like there is nothing to do except trying to move on with your life and trying to forget about it as of now though it might definitely be a game changer in your life if you were to get it sooner.

 

Senators, representatives tend to get the same answer as the one they give applicants on the phone except the fact that theirs is in writing. But, definitely keep trying as you never know what doors will open eventually.

 

I just wish someday, the process will be a lot more rigorous especially time wise so that everyone get there stuff done within the same amount of time.

It’s a serious bungle for the $1 billion computer system, dubbed ELIS in honor of Ellis Island, and it’s a major black eye for an agency that is already facing questions over its processing of refugees and that would be called upon to handle any legalization program Congress would approve."

 

The background check backlog is unlike anything we have seen in many years...

Try to submit a case inquiry online. I understand what you feel, especially when you see some updates here of some who have interview letters 2 months after FP.

Where's your friend stationed? Only asking because some posts are lucky to have USCIS officers visit to help soldiers and their family members with their USCIS matters. Today, I got to meet with them to ask about my case. The room was full with soldiers. They're able to expedite their cases, they do fingerprinting and once in awhile even administer the oath. I will suggest your friend to look into that.

Seems like you and I are both in the same timeline. I got my fingerprints done on January 11 and I haven't heard anything since. Have you done an infopass yet? Apparently my case is still in NBC and hasn't been sent to my local office yet.

 

I was hoping to send in my packet to join the Navy in July but I don't see that happening this year. Sigh!

Thanks guys. Sadly I don't think there is any point in submitting case inquiries or have an Infopass appointment before your case is outside of the normal processing times. My local office is currently working on June cases, so there is still a considerable amount of time that needs to pass until I am considered to be outside of the normal processing times.

 

@Hopeful2004 I feel you. It's unfair that people's lives get put on hold just because of immigration. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that you will hear something soon!

My case was mailed on 12th from NBC to local office. That's a good news at least. no update from USCIS case inquiry yet.

and I got this news from the local representative office. I called and requested to follow up my case and she helped.

Hope I will get an update this week or next.

My N-400 application was received on March 25, 2016, Finger printing took on April 20th 2016, no update since then. I tried the office of Ombudsman and Senator Corey Booker and both told me that my case is under review and waiting for background clearance. Look at my timeline, if you applied after me, you don't need to worry yet. There are people who are having severe delay. All we can do is chill and wait for the time to come.

Wow! Sorry to hear about your delay. My hubby's ROC took longer than necessary due to background checks. He got the 10 year card almost exactly 1 year from when USCIS received the application. We sent his N-400 in only a few months after that, but we're here waiting again (not as long as you, yet - but I'm sure it will be).  It's always frustrating to see others at the same field office "fly" through or get upset that they've only been waiting half the time you have. Hope you have some good news soon

My case is still worst compared to you all. :-) It’s been almost 6 months since my FP was; and my N-400 on-line status still shows as ‘FP Appointment Scheduled. Not sure if the 90-day background check is true. Under ideal case yes 30 day rule applies but there is no upper time limit of when background check should or can complete. In some cases it can take months or even years too.
