Finally - in line for interview as of today. I opened an inquiry last week, not sure if that sped up the process, but my case activity coincides with the processing time for the field office. Good luck everyone.

As of Thursday or Friday last week, upon checking my case, I received a "User Defined Error". I even contacted the support email, but they didn't reply with anything.

It was a big surprise to me today as I checked again, and I learned I'm finally In Line for an interview.

December 2016 was when I applied.

That's normal. You're already in-line, so you are just waiting for an interview appointment to become available. According to you info on the left, you're in NYC - I have found a thread of NYC filers for you, you may want to check that one out. Good luck!

(Edit: I see you've already signed up for the timeline in the NYC filers thread. Just keep an eye on the status on the USCIS website).

Finally  8 months after biometrics got in line for interview message today. I had an info pass appointment last Friday and the officer initiated  an inquiry as my case was outside processing time, not sure if that helped.I was able to find out through my senator's office earlier that my case was stuck in background check .Looks like they are clearing the backlog.

No, your husband does not need to be there. I had mine with me in the waiting room solely for moral support. Good luck on your interview!!

I am one of the lucky ones that has been stuck! I applied over 9 months ago, and did my finger prints over 8 months ago. My processing center is the DC office.

I do wish I had a better understanding of the delay beyond backlog - I've seen my parents and family members who applied after me do their oath ceremony. My best guess is that my extensive travel history (30 countries over the last 5 years) is slowing the background check process. At this point, it is causing me headaches with a job transfer / prospective move. Really not sure what else I can do :(

I am sorry to her you have this problem too. I was stuck in background check for almost 5 months, which was unusual. What country are you from?

The only thing you can do is:

1. Call USCIS one every month or so.

2. Make infopass appointment.

3. Notify ombudsman.

4. Notify your congressman.

5. Sue them (Writ of Mandamus).

Actually, it seems quite a few options are available. Only the last one is almost 100% reliable, but costly.

DC field office here too. Applied December, 2016, taking a little shy of one year for interview.

My interview has been scheduled for December 9th! By the way, I have a similar background with extensive travel. Background check will definitely take longer. And it appears that DC office is processing Jan, 2017. You should hear from them in the next month or two. Good luck!

  • 2 weeks later...

I filed my N-400

I got receipt on 09//28/2016 and soon finger printed then wait for ever ...............

I called every month

inquired online 2 times

info Pass once

asked Senator several times

asked Ombudsman several times

Now it is 15 months. The only thing left is to sue USCIS. I will spend attorney fee and court fee anyway.
