Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of creating a checklist of documents that my fiancé will need to start to prepare after we receive our NOA2. I'm looking at the Casablanca consulate website and it states that both a Singlehood certificate and the Non-Remarriage certificate needed. My fiancé thinks that these are both the same documents, but he is not entirely sure so I'm hoping someone here might have a definite answer. Are the Singlehood certificate and Non-Remarriage certificate the same document?

This is the webpage I am looking at: https://ma.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/fiancee-visa/the-interview/

Thanks much! :)

Hi!

So my advice is wait until your actually at the interview stage as not ALL the documents listed on the consulate website could be asked for you AND in Morocco legal documents expire after usually a 3 month time period.  When its time for the interview - your fiance should get one of three things - 1 a letter in the mail stating the documents the Consulate wants 2. a Phone Call from the Consulate that will tell them what documents are needed at the interview 3. an email listing the documents desired for the interview.

If your fiance gets a letter - 1. Ensure the address where mail is being sent to is a post office box not a direct address to ensure mail arrives and doesn't get lost 2. Remind your fiance to check the mail box every other day once your case gets sent to the consulate in Casablanca.

If your fiance gets a phone call - make sure they write down the list of documents and ask clarifying questions if they are not sure what or where to get a specific document.

If your fiance gets an email - they can always email back or call the Consulate to clarify the documents needed at the interview

If your dead set on getting documentation in advance - I believe the document in french is known as a Certificat de célibataire and it can be gotten from moqqattah from the shiekh in the area they live in.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your very detailed response! I'm not having him actually gather the documents yet, I'm just making a list of documents that he may need to gather once I receive NOA2 for the initial petition (which will hopefully be in the next few weeks!). Thanks for helping to clarify things!

The consulate does NOT contact the Moroccan fiancé, they will contact the USC to schedule the interview. After we got confirmation the NVC had sent our paperwork to Morocco I waited two weeks then started emailing a request for interview letter. I mailed twice a week and it took five emails/2.5 weeks before I got an interview date.

My fiance also says the singlehood and the non-remarriage are the same thing. It does expire in three months after it's issued, and it along with birth certificate, police record and court record all need to be translated.

I've attached the letter the embassy sent showing the required documents.

The Moroccan fiancé fills out the DS 160 not the USC. Can fill it out when you get your interview date. Will need to upload a photo and print out the proof of completion at the end to take to your interview.

This is extremely helpful, thank you! Do you know if your fiancé needed an apostille document or were the regular documents and English translations enough? I'm trying to determine if an apostille is needed or not, and I keep finding conflicting answers.

You fill out form DS 160 online when you receive confirmation of interview date. You upload picture. you print out the front page with picture. You submit the printed page with other documents on interview date.

Good luck!
