That will happen all the way through the process. Hang in there

I  got a call back from USCIS today and they told me that I am not in the system yet, which makes me wondering if the mailman ony forgot to scan my documents or if my package got lost somewhere between Atlanta and Chicago. The man on the phone told me to wait another one or two weeks and if I haven't received anything from them until March 21st, I should call them again.

It's so frustrating to read that they got their NOA1 and I am still waiting for mine. I don't even know if USCIS got my paperwork.

It can be frustrating, yes, but it's how the process goes. You really should wait a little longer. As for them receiving the paperwork, if you sent it by UPS then it's trackable. Have you not confirmed the package was delivered?

The K1 journey:                                                                                                                             The AOS journey:

11/09/2013 - I-129F Packet mailed to Dallas Lockbox                                                                                         06/22/2015 - AOS packet mailed to Chicago Lockbox

02/14/2014 - Case shipped to Embassy, where it waited for over a year at my request                                 11/07/2015 - AOS approved (EAD and AP had already been approved) - there was no interview

05/21/2015 - Interview - Approved

06/19/2015 - Wedding (L)

The ROC journey:

10/12/2017 - ROC packet mailed to VSC

01/21/2019 - ROC Approved - there was no interview

The N-400 journey:

02/16/2020 - N-400 application filed online

02/21/2020 - Paper NOA received in the mail

03/13/2020 - Biometrics

02/02/2021 - Interview & test - Approved

UPS track all of their domestic packages. OP could try and get a hold of someone at customer service, explaining the situation and details. This also is a good reminder to always keep the receipts or ask extra for tracking when it comes to packages send to the USCIS.

We actually don't have a tracking number. My husband denied when the guy at the UPS store asked him if he wants to track the package.I am super mad at my husband.

. The only thing my husband was told is that USCIS should get the package by the end of the week( February 24th).

I quote;

When a letter or package is shipped with United Parcel Service, a unique tracking number is assigned to it. With this number, both the shipper and recipient can track the progress of the shipment as it moves through the system en route to its destination. The UPS tracking number is listed on both the outer package of the shipped item and receipt provided to the sender, and typically starts with the number and letter combination "1Z." If the tracking number is lost or unknown, there are a few ways to retrieve it without a receipt.

Contact UPS or Sender for Tracking Number
  • Perhaps the simplest way to obtain a lost tracking number is by calling UPS customer service at (800) PICK-UPS, or (800) 742-5877. You can also contact customer service through live chat and email. Be prepared to provide shipment details such as the sender's and recipient's names, the date the item was shipped, the location where the item was shipped from, and where the item is going. If you were the one who sent the package, you also have the option of contacting the UPS store that shipped the item for you. Similarly, if you are the recipient, you can contact the sender for tracking information.

Becci, breathe and relax - if you'll take some advice from a fellow German - otherwise the remainder of your USCIS dealings will give you an Ulcer.

It is very, very rare for mail to actually get lost. It is not going to happen to you twice.

Let's say they received the packaged on Feb 24th. today is only the 8th working day after that. Receiving a NOA-1 can take a month, I have seen cases where it took 6 weeks. The waiting times seem to have gotten longer. It is irrelevant if you see notices from people who filed around the same days as you, sadly USCIS does not go in perfect order.

Set yourself a deadline of, say 4 weeks from likely receipt. Forget about the case until then. Intermittently check your bank account to see if the check clears. This means you have about 3 more weeks to go.

If nothing happens, then reach out to USCIS again.

Whatever you do, do not file again! It is WAY to early, by at least a month to make a judgement on lost mail - which, again, is very, very rare.

And get tracking numbers in the future.

Than you for cheering me up a little bit. I am just worried because it happened to us when we filed for my K1 visa. We haven't had problems with UPS so far but I somehow think that the package got lost in the mail somewhere.

Believe me, I was so mad at my husband for not getting a tracking number. I guess I have to play the waiting game a little longer...

Does it affect my status here in the US? My stamp in the passport expires on April 15th. I am a little worried about that too.

Your visa expires the moment you have port of entry. The expiration date on the visa has nothing to do with filing or your status inside the US. You have to enter the US before the expiration date shown on visa.

You are fine, a lot of people are either not able to file straight away within the 90 days or choose to wait to get all their information together. Some people even wait years! Overstay is forgiven when going through AOS through a spouse, but it does mean that until you get the NOA1 you are out of status. Don't let this worry you so much, I was out of status for a few months before we filed. It's really very early on in the process to lose so much sleep over this. I'd wait it out at least a few weeks more before following up with USCIS to see if they have now received your package.

We already had the problem with USPS when my husband sent the documents for my K1 visa last year. He called USCIS and they told him that they never received any documents from him. That's why we re-sent everything with UPS and they received it a week later.

I'm just afraid that USCIS didn't receive anything and that we wait 2 more weeks and nothing happens. I need my work permit so that I can get my driver's license.

I don't think that he still has the receipt from UPS.

FYI, fellow atlantan here. You do not need your work permit for DL, just ss# and I94 or 797

I'm still waiting for my I-797 from my Green Card application...haven't heard anything from USCIS since I sent the paperwork on February 21st.
