Marriage Certificate for I-485

Hi!

I want to clarify something, hopefully someone can help.

On the instructions for the I-485, it says that a copy of the marriage certificate is required. On the VisaJourney instructions, it says that a certified copy is required.

Is a simple photocopy of the original marriage certificate sufficient, or do I really have to order another one to send in?

Photo copy is fine.

USCIS no longer routinely requires submission of original documents or "certified copies." Instead, ordinary legible photocopies of such documents (including naturalization certificates and alien registration cards) will be acceptable for initial filing and approval of petitions and applications.

Note that you may be required to produce an official certified copy during your interview, so it's probably a good idea to have one in your possession in any case...

Oh yeah absolutely I'll have the original...I might get around to ordering an extra...but I want to file AOS ASAP so I didn't want to have to wait for the office to send add'l copies.

We didn't have to wait for our certified certificate, but then our minister signed the license at the wedding and gave it to us. We went the following Monday to the Probate Court and waited about 10 minutes to get our certified copies. We sent a certified copy with AOS, but that's just what we did...not saying you need to.

Yeah military members get free certified copies so I went down one morning was first in line took 5 mins max. I also sent in a certified copy. I wonder if that means that I won't need to bring another copy of the marriage license to the interview cause they should have it already.
