I feel like I just Slapped a Puppy :( my poor husband

roflmaooooooooo

:lol::lol:

Sorry I know it's not funny but I have felt the same way but never knew how to describe it till now. I cannot tell you how many arguments we got into at first (before meeting) due to the language thing and not just not knowing a word or two but just expressions in general. As a matter of fact in the very beginning I thought he was gay and he was agreeing with me!!! Took us a while to iron THAT one out but it started because he has a friend and he would say, "we love each other very much" or " we are very much in love", etc. and then when I'd ask if he was gay he'd say yeah 'cause he was in a good mood. rofl. Between that stuff and the fact that he tends to yes me to death instead of stopping to ask what I mean...oy! :wacko:

Oh noooo, it seems I am on the same boat!!

I dont speak english so well, I write more than speak this language, I don't know what to do, my husband talk with me everyday but I have noticed it is very different when I talk with his mom, daughter or friends, all the time they say me to rephrase because they arent understand me. It is terrible. Could I get the visa with the wrong pronunciation???

Husband has learned to Write better than Talk... Cause we are always IMing or using Text messages everyday.. And he has no one to speak english with over there.. Only Arabic.. But I suggested for him to get his Nieces (they learn english in grammar/ High school) to talk with him in English.

Do you have supportive friends or family who would be willing to chat with him by phone or microphone, with as little stress as possible? That would help him practice and he would get to know your world even better.

The CO who interviewed my husband spoke English, French and Arabic and he had the opportunity to use any of these languages without a translator. If the CO does not speak Arabic, there have translators avaliable. The CO asked if he prefered to do the interview in Arabic. He told her no he would use English, but if he had trouble understanding, he would ask for clarification in french or Arabic. He had to do this only once.

He should not feel he does not have the opportunity to use the language he is most comfortable with. it does not mean there is a language barrier. Give him a list of possible questions in English and drill with him in English so he becomes familiar with the vocabulary. I would bet his English is good enough to answer the questions, but some words may not be familiar to him. Usually the first qestion is Who is the petitioner? My husband had no idea what this word meant until I explained.

You have time to get him relaxed with everything. Don't worry.

I think its important to know how sensitive these guys can be about their language skills. It is so important to my husband to use English properly and he gets extremely frustrated if he doesn't understand something. He also gets terribly embarassed if he says something wrong. I've learned to use kit gloves when it comes to this.
