Retiring in the Phillipines

Many here talk about retiring in the Philippines.  Then comes the questions.

What visa do I use for staying in the Philippines for extended time?  Or should I just use the BB stamp?

Those that have used the BB stamp know that is is quite easy to do when traveling WITH your wife, but it has a 1 year limitation.

The 13a visa is sort of a PITA as you have to go to BI annually .. yada, yada.

There there is the SSRVisa.  For those married to a Filipina the Courtesy program can add a smile to your day.. and for years down the road.  This is good for your asawa also if she does not want to obtain her dual citizenship after acquiring her U.S. citizenship.

Yikes.... You need a Master's degree to understand that diagram.  It looks like they want money :o  I like the BB stamp. Gets me out of the Phil for a bit and I think if you do the math and considering lost of investment dollars, it just might be cheaper to stay on the BB stamp bus.

Don't need a master's degree, just look at the column for the Courtesy program, maybe need a ruler or blank piece of paper to keep your eye from wandering to the wrong column. ;)

Money is minimal under the Courtesy program, only $1500 and that doesn't have to stay in the account you can transfer it if you are investing in a condo or property... then you have ZERO tided up.

With the SSRV you can enter and exit without your awasa and not need to do anything but show your special visa card... and the stay is unlimited.  Another perk is you don't need to buy rount trip tickets or throw away tickets if you are staying for an undetermined amount of time... you are classified as a RESIDENT.

Obviously if you are only coming to stay for a few months the BB stamp is ideal.  We use that right now but I am looking very serious at the SSRV.
