Finishing work while waiting for EAD

So I hope I won't need this because my EAD will get to me on time but I need to plan for a case it won't

 

My current EAD (F-1 OPT) expires on June 5th. That is also the end of the school year in the school I work for.

I sent my package March 2nd so I'm hopeful but...

 

I get paid over 12 months, meaning I'm supposed to keep getting paid and get health insurance over the summer.

Is that illegal if the contract specifically separates the work period and benefit period?

Since the end of January EAD's for pending AOS applicants (and other groups) is automatically extended by 180 days as long as one applied for extension within 90 days of the expiration. The expired card and your NOA from the extension application counts as an unexpired card.

 

edit: just saw you aren't an AOS applicant.... so you'll have to check if your group is included. Sorry for any confusion.
