They should be. Unlike some other countries (like the UK, which I know observes today as a holiday), Good Friday is not a federal holiday (or even a state holiday in many states - or at least not in California).

Christmas and Thanksgiving are the only (sorta - for Thanksgiving) religious themed holidays that are federal holidays as well.

Yeah, I'd imagine they are open, however, what I envied, is looking at the Montreal consulate's hours of operation, they get BOTH US and Canadian holidays off. Lucky them. Canada seems to have a long weekend every month. I work for the state government, and we get eight holidays off, today or Monday not included.

Colombia has a ton of religious holidays which are usually moved to the following Monday. So the US embassy has those days off as well as any US holidays. No wonder those dorks don't get anything done on time.

Yeh i cant believe that Good Friday is not a holiday here.

I have never worked Good Friday at home.

My step daughter even had to go to school today. Thats strange to me.

Well, the US tries to stay as neutral as possible when it comes to religion since there are so many different cultures with different religious holidays for each one. It wouldn't be fair to mark Good Friday as a holiday for some while it means nothing to others.
