Evidence of Bona Fide Marriage shortly after Marriage

My fiance is arriving on March 10 and we made arrangements to get get married March 17th. We are filing his AOS paperwork within the next week or so after that. What could we use as proof of a bona fide marriage so shortly after getting married? He is listed as being a tenant for my apartment already, but the apartment is in my name. I can try to add him to my bank account and he is listed as being able to receive mail on my PO BOX. I cannot list him on my cars or anything because he cannot even get a license in the state of NH until he has his EAD. Any suggestions? I have no "property" except for my cars to list him on.

Thank You,

Heidi

You don't need evidence of a bonafide marriage for AOS.  That will be necessary for lifting of condition PR status 2 years (less 90 days) from the date when the green card is issued.

When you adjust from a K1 you just need to show you met the conditions of the K1 (ie married within the 90 days) and obviously the other documents they need (birth certificate, marriage certificate, affidavit of support etc).

Remember that you can not file AOs until you receive your marriage certificate after your wedding. When we got married at our local courthouse we had to wait a couple days to receive by mail our stamped marriage certificate. I remember the day of our wedding we requested (and paid) a few extra copies of our marriage certificate to use for my AOS. I dont know if where you live you can actually get your marriage certificate certified right after the wedding. In case you do it at a courthouse of course.

To add him to your back account, I think you will need his social security number and he needs to be in US first in order to get it. You will need that bonafide proof after 2 years when he has to renew his 2 year GC.

True. If he is adjusting from K-1, he just needs to include Marriage Certificate. The other evidences are just optional.

These may include

- Marriage Cert

- wedding photos

- Screenshot of FB greetings from in-laws

- photos of greeting cards

- Enrollment Confirmation for Joint accounts (bank)

- Enrollment Confirmation for Insurance (health, dental, vision)

- Enrollment Confirmation for bills (utilities, power, cable, wifi, mobile)

it didnt take so much time to gather them. We got them even before we received our copy of Marriage Certificate in the mail.

Anyways, if they are filing I-130 along with AOS, they need more evidence.

As everyone has said, you don't need to mail any evidence of a bonafide marriage with a K-1 AOS, just the marriage certificate. Our priority was for my husband to be able to work and get a driver's license ASAP, so we sent in the AOS package 5 days after he arrived, the same day we got married, without anything beyond the filing requirements.

Lots of K-1s get approved without interview without having sent in any bonafide marriage evidence. If you have an interview you bring evidence with you to the interview.

Now is a great time to start building evidence to prove it is a bonafide marriage.  You will need that in two short years when you go through ROC (removal of conditions)  Get a box and start putting everything you can think of in that box to prove this is a real marriage.  Bills, Christmas cards sent to both of you, copy of your will, power of attorney, joint Costco membership card, insurance cards, etc.  Anything and everything you can get your hands on.  Keep adding to that box for the next two years.  Hey if you need a second or third box then great for you.  That will make it much easier in two years when you file for ROC.

God bless

John
