We hope it isn't an issue for us either. On social media our relationship isn't public at all because we knew from start that most people doubt that long distance relationships last and neither of us needs that kind of scrutiny or comments from people with the "oh do you trust him/her?" and "Hmm. That's not gonna last!" "Long distance relationships never work out!!" We both hand picked who we told about our engagement even down to relatives because though they are supportive I know for me(beneficiary) I don't want the "21 questions" adding to my anxiety while we wait. "Have you heard anything? Are you nervous?" When do you expect to hear anything?" "I could never wait this long!" For me its made things hella easier waiting with barely anyone to ask me anything and same for him. When it's closer to interview or after I hopefully get visa in hand, then the world can know and they won't have to ask anything cause they will see!!!

Right, that's understandable. For us, we never really bother with social media. I don't even remember the last time I posted something. Same with her except maybe for her dogs.

Same here! Aside from people scrutinizing LDR's. I guess we're just both very private and nit-picky on what we post in social media. Since the beginning of our relationship, I could count the number of times we posted something about our relationship. Even our relationship status is set on private.

Hi March Whiners!!  I need some help with thoughts or ideas... I want to get or make something nice for my fiance when he finally arrives here as a Welcome to US/Home gift. I am just not entirely sure what to get or make (as a very occasional crafty person).  I have thought about getting a nice map of Lima (his hometown).  I have a map of Anchorage (my hometown) in my apartment and I love it.  It always a reminder of no matter how far I go I always remember where I came from. Is anyone else planning on getting a welcome gift for your fiance when they finally arrive?

That's a really cute idea!! Maybe I could make something like that for our home (even though I'm the beneficiary)

That is an awesome idea! I am the beneficiary too but I think I want to do that. Since He lives in Colorado but he grew up in Michigan. Ooh thanks for the wonderful idea.

That's a really good idea! I already have a lot of "Cuban" stuff to put around the house and then I'm going to my grandma's house as much as possible so she can teach me all kind of different Cuban dishes to cook, especially the ones that are his favorite. That way I can cook some homemade food for him since the Cuban restaurants around me don't do the food justice lol and grandma is always the best cook.

I also took some picture of us with his family on my last visit and will take some more on the next visits and frame them to put around the house. It'll be nice to have family pictures around so it's "our" house.

It's so great seeing all of you thinking of nice ideas to get your house more welcoming and a real home for your fiance(e).

I can call myself lucky because I've already lived at my fiance's home for five months, 2 months early 2016 and 3 months early 2017. Everytime I've been there we've rearranged furniture in a way we both agreed it would look better and would be more comfortable for the both of us. I left some of my things there last time, so my sleepers are in the rank next to the main door, my pj's in the nightstand drawer and some of my books in the shelves. I have my own reading corner that my fiancé arranged for me before I visited first time (yep, of course... I'm a big bookworm).

Last March we went to a Panic! At The Disco concert because they are one of my fav bands. My fiance got a poster and after I left he framed it along with the two concert tickets. He hang it next to his own poster and ticket from a Taylor Davis concert, because he said it would be cool and just fair.

In February we adopted a cat together... that I miss to pieces now. We called him Jaime  (after Jaime Lannister), because he is handsome and spoiled, and also declawed. Also Game of Thrones was the reason why my fiancé started to talk to me on FB, since I had a picture sitting on the Iron Throne.

I have to confess I don't know why I'm posting this really, especially being an April filer. I guess part of me wants to say you don't need to do much to make your significant other feel welcomed and at home. They will feel at home just being with you. But it's always great when someone does those small things for you.

I guess I'm also feeling a bit down too, because it's hard when you feel your life and home is somewhere else. But oh well, I can't complain much since we have been apart for one month and a half (only) now. The longest we've been apart has been 10 months, so I should be kind of used to this. But no one should have to get used to the bad things in life.

I hope things keep moving forward. We deserve some luck finally... And so you do. Good luck to everyone and enjoy this weekend with your loved ones.

My cats name is Khaleesi (we usually just call her Kali though)!!! :)  I really understand...even though I am the petitioner I do get bummed sometimes because I feel like my home is incomplete when my other half is on the other side of the equator. For now I am trying to stay focused on getting to go to Peru in July! Then hopefully it will be a short wait after that for him to be here!

My fiancee loves tea. When I visited her, we had tea three times a day. I've never been much of a tea drinker. I've been looking for a nice tea set and amassing a collection of many different flavors of teas for her to enjoy.
