Well, I know I'm getting my SSN before the wedding because, first, I'm not changing my name and, second, it seems to me something that might be needed to other things like be added to Gary's bank account while I'm still single.

With the new electronic system for the i94, you don't need to wait two weeks anymore to do this. Also, I'm not sure you can get your SSN after the wedding with your new name if you didn't get one as single before. I think I read something about it not being possible, since they are going to ask you for your EAD minimum, as the K1 is not valid anymore.

I think there's a reason why the guides say you have to get your SSN before marriage, and it has to do with that.

Sounds plausible!
It's facetime day today anyways. Need to find out if he already requested leave :P
(Since he's a guy and American - I don't think so :P:P:P Maybe this time it pays out that the iron rake didn't take care for that yet :P:P )

Yep, thinking of it, it makes a lot of sense to me. They need to know you are legally staying in the country. After marriage you can only proof that with the Green Card and, before that, with the provisional EAD. So as soon as you see your i94 available and updated, fill the forms and go to the SS office to get your SSN. Changing the name after the wedding should be easy, because the marriage certificate is all they need, I think, and you'll have that one soon getting married in Vegas :)

Oh, these boys! ;) Must be a great thing having a date, even if just estimated.

Here is our timeline just for reference 😀... we got our marriage licence the same day my fiance entered U.S. all we needed for DC was my Virginia drivers license and his passport. Then a week after his POE we went to the social security office with his passport and a printed copy of his I94 to apply for his SSN. He got the card a week later in the mail... two weeks after POE. Definitely don't need to wait the 2 weeks to go apply for ssn!

That sounds optimistic.

Unfortunately, in Ohio they require both SSNs for a marriage licence.

Ooooookaaaay that sounds good!

So... butter to the fishes (like we say in Germany :D ) :
My POE is estimated for 22nd of September.
How many weeks after do you suggest for him to ask for leave to be kind of safe?
Shall we try for 3rd and 4th week of October?

I need to give him precise instructions hahaha :D:D:D

Since you don't need the SSN for the wedding and you'll get your number soon anyway, I think it's completely up to you when to set the date for the wedding :D

That is unfortunate! The website for DC said they need both parties SSN, but I emailed them to briefly explain our situation and they just wrote back and said we would be fine. Maybe that would be the same for OH?

This morning I was thoroughly looking over my I-797 and I noticed they spelled my F's middle name wrong :o
Ok, so here is my question...
Who do I contact in regards to this?!  The CSC OR the NVC?!
Any help or advice on this would be much appreciated!!

Thanks in advance.

One more question...

Send the USCIS a RFE. :jest:
It's past the USCIS stage, so your choices are probably to contact the NVC and ask them about it in the window of a few days that they have it, or wait until it hits the embassy and fix it there.

This happens when the staffer at the SS office doesn't understand their policy. That's why it's recommended you print the portion of their Program Operations Manual which shows K1 visa holders as eligible for a SSN. https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211530

How to Get Married in Las Vegas, Nevada

Gather together your paperwork. You will need identification, such as a driver's license or passport.

Apply for a license. The fee is $55.00, and you must apply in person at the Marriage License Bureau, which is located at 200 S. 3rd St. Bring your paperwork and identification with you. The office is open from 8 a.m. to midnight. There is no waiting period, so the marriage license will be issued immediately.

Choose your music and witness. If you don't have a witness, the chapel will provide you with one. Some will offer the use of a photographer as well. After the brief ceremony, enjoy your honeymoon in Las Vegas.

<snip>   I love the last step - if you don't have a witness, one will be appointed for you LOL

This is our plan as soon as she gets her SSN.  We'll leave on a Friday and spend a long weekend there.  Groupon always has special for the various chapels in town.  Who knows, maybe we'll run into some of our fellow VJers!  LOL, wouldn't that be something.

Leave is for the wedding.
Since we have to fly to Utah and go to Vegas by car it takes a little logistics.
For SSN he doesn't need leave!

But we've agreed now for 3rd and 4th week of October. Until then HOPEFULLY my SSN will be there...

Now I just finally have to find a flight.

Did anyone here ever fly with JetBlue? Totally unknown to me! But they're handling my preferred flight, so I was scouting experiences! :)
