We chose to plan a date with at least 2-3 months buffer from when the "expected" approval time frame was. I found a place that is super affordable and only required a small deposit. It's also 100% refundable as long as I let them know with 2 weeks advance notice. We booked it for Jan 27th, but expect he should be able to get here before the end of the year so we gave ourselves a month in case anything gets delayed more than normal. 

As for actual wedding planning, it makes it super difficult! I bought a dress over the weekend, but can't send out invitations or do any real preparation and planning until he has his visa in hand and flight booked. I've told all of my close friends and family of the date, but told them to not book any travel plans until I tell them his visa confirmed.

We're doing a traditional wedding, but on a very small scale. 75 guests max, small venue at a city park clubhouse, buffet style Mexican food, booze purchased from Costco, friends doing the photography/music, etc. After he gets his green card we will travel together back to India and have a formal Indian wedding because we promised his parents/family that we would. Unfortunately we just can't afford to have one massive wedding where both families can all attend so having two weddings was our only option. Plus it allows me to have my traditional style wedding and also the Indian wedding for his culture.

We are going to have a small, brief ceremony in the fall with just our immediate family members right on Lake Michigan. We have friends that have a nice outdoors area in a really scenic area of the state who offered to host our reception, but accommodations may be challenging so we are also investigating renting a room at great little Irish restaurant and inn and holding a reception for close friends and family there. As if the visa process wasn't already stressful enough, we are left trying to plan for a wedding that we can't confirm!

 

Just wanted to get some thoughts from anyone willing to share

When my fiancée arrives, we'll pick a date and head to the county courthouse to get the paperwork out of the way (and appease my very religious parents that don't want me living with my fiancée unmarried) with just my parents and very close friends, and have a dinner afterwards. We have a venue reserved for Nov. 10 for a "show" ring ceremony/reception. They have a 2 week notice policy to change/cancel with no penalty.

We will fly to Utah, grab his parents and sister (at least), and then head out for a road trip to Las Vegas!
Family has a time share there, which we can use, and the plan so far is to get married in the High Roller (biggestestestest giant wheel in the world).

If that fails... screw it, we'll go to Elvis haha

We came on that, because it's not suuuuper trashy, but still Vegas. And something unique.... at least.
Since we have no chance to gather even half of our people at the same spot. 
It's 900 bucks for daytime, 1300 (if I'm not wrong) for night time. One cabin, up to 10 people.

Expensive 30 minutes, but still

Typically no, but it could depend on the state/county you are getting married in. For our DC marriage license we just had to show up with my driver's license  and my fiances passport. The requirements for where you will be getting married usually can be found online.

Ok....same routine....rush hour traffic home to the mailbox, no informed delivery today (just signed up yesterday) ....today it is raining hard, if we have a golden ticket will run and dance like King David in street down my neighborhood and yell with excitement and praise at the top of my lungs.  .......just saying

Just called NVC this morning and they haven't recieved my case yet😔 Oh well it's still early. But they told me it can take up to 6 weeks ?? Is this true ? ... I'm going to wait until next week to call again but I hope it gets recieved sooner than that ! 

 

Anyone on here with NOA2 from July 31st tried calling yet ?

From what I've seen, no. NVC seems to be an interesting beast, though. I called them one day to see if our case had arrived yet. The person on the phone indicated to me they had no record of it yet. The very next morning, I received an e-mail with our Case Number and a notification that it was being sent to the consulate. I've seen other people call and get their case number and never receive an e-mail notification.

 

 

The whole process is a nightmare for some people.. it's been 4 weeks for me and nvc still hasn't received anything yet.. I was just reading in the January filers it's been 10 weeks for someone and nothing even after emailing them and calling USCIS. One can only pray and hope..

As of last night, CEAC status tracker shows "In Transit"!!! wowwwww when people say things move fast after the NOA2, they are not kidding! I'm much cheerier today after my emo moment yesterday; my fiance is only staying in his hometown for a few days so he should be back in Delhi and able to get everything ready next week to request police clearance and begin scheduling the medical and interview. 

 

Timeline info for others who recently received NOA2:

My NOA2 approval date was 7/24; NVC received it on 8/4; case # provided to me when I called on 8/7; status updated to "In Transit" 8/8
