I think the i-134 actually asks for all your bank accounts, and all personal assets, stocks, bonds, and life insurance. So I don't think you can offer up a token minimal amount in one account -- this is more like providing a complete balance sheet of your net worth.

I was also told that we'd need three years of tax returns and also recent bank statements for every account I have. There's a second form for AOS (i-864) that's going to need the same things, and presumably they'd better be close to the I-134 filing.

This is one area where if you have concerns a lawyer might actually useful (much as I loathe to say it.)

My lawyer only asked for last years tax return and W2. He said the letter from employer and bank statements are not required.

My immigration lawyer friend told me this as well. What they want to see is that you make enough money, and like the evidence of meeting for the I-129F, there is a hierarchy of evidence. Official government records are the highest forms of evidence (Tax returns, W2s, passport stamps etc.). The more money you make above the poverty threshold, the less important the secondary forms of evidence are. It won't hurt to include them, but it won't add much to your case unless you're right on the lower threshold and need to prove every penny.

I think everyone is different. Like the original poster I'm effectively self-employed so I'm sure that has some bearing on how much evidence to provide.

It was kind of strange, on our application he had us pretty light on relationship evidence (I think he only asked for 8-10 pics of us), but had a big focus on copies of the passport pages with stamps, copies of airplane tickets, etc, and then emphasis on financial stuff (but given we have no NOA2, that's barely relevant at the moment.)

He also emphasized personalized letters of intent and said to go over the top on the lovey-dovey stuff. We're a non-emoting couple so that was entertaining.

Slow day today on visa journey. Only two new NOA2 updates for July bringing the July Number up to 42. One was NOA1 March 29 and one was a January NOA1. Heres to a more productive NOA2 day tomorrow.

4 NOA2 updates today bringing the number up to 46 NOA2s posted total on VJ for July compared to 260 total in June. There were on average 8 NOA2 updates per day in June so California is still processing under 50 percent the rate of last month.

Personally I'd stay away from doing that too at this point. I don't know by how much that'd speed up your case, as you might be just a few days away from getting a notice anyway (hopefully!) I doubt they'd give you y helpful information and it'd probably be just another prepared and official statement. I doubt they approve cases after ours on purpose, it seems that they just don't have a system that'd keep it 100% fair and are just handling it how they can. I feel like it's just a human factor. Some officers have been there for years and go faster than others who might be more new.

However, I do agree that such agencies need to receive feedback to know what needs to be fixed or put more effort into in order to improve and speed things up. So there's no definite answer to that...

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my post. I am excited to say that I got a RFE which is like everyone says feels a lot better than getting what you don't want. I actually didnt receive it physically I received an email and a text about my case. So I cant wait to see what they need.

Another update!

We need help peeps.

So, remember two days ago when I said we received an email from the U.S. Embassy in Malaysia to schedule for an interview?

Recap:

- March 13th Sent I-129F package

- March 16th NOA1

- June 1st Fiance left Houston to visit his mom in San Diego

- Set up USPS Informed Delivery

- June 19th Fiance left U.S. to visit me in Malaysia. (Still here)

- July 17th USPS Informed Delivery showed letter from the National Visa Center. Attached here. Is this the letter everyone gets? No way of knowing the content until my fiance gets home.

- So far no NOA2 notification on both USPS Informed Delivery nor an email notification from USCIS

- July 17th night Email from U.S. Embassy in Malaysia to schedule an interview.

So, we called the USCIS to asked about the NOA2 but the lady on the line said the same thing on the USCIS case status website. Somewhere along the lines of case accepted, still processing. As the USCIS website has not been updated, if the lady has been reading our status from there, she will not be able to give us any updated information.

We just want to know if the email from the U.S. Embassy in Malaysia is genuine. The email address is KLIV@state.gov

We would really appreciate any help.

Although nothing so far has been remotely close to normal - I believe your letter and email is legit.  I'd call embassy and schedule then gather my evidences and get a medical and speed through the rest of the process.  Keep us informed.

Haha.. I guess everyone here is used to being not normal with all these processes.

I did a quick check. That's a genuine email address and the Immigrant Visa Case Number on the email did came up when I check on the Department of State website. Phew!

Ok, since the NVC letter is in my fiance's mailbox and we have no way of knowing if the NOA2 is there until he gets back, what can we do now? What documents should we prepare?

Have you tried calling the NVC?
They might be able to check for your status only with your WAC number. That's what you give them when you call for the NVC number as well!

Maybe they can help clarifying?

How much longer until your fiance goes back?

2 days...

That's what we got from the website of the Department of State.
