Oh yeah now that you mentioned it. My F runs his own business. So the plan is helping him with his business like doing paperworks, answering phone calls etc.

I wonder how that works while waiting for an EAD after marriage. Any insights please?

I'd say it's a matter of luck. Ours was approved in 5 days (actually 3 working days) but some people have to wait for a couple of weeks or even months.

I do hope you are approved soon!

I did not know that you received rfe as well.

What was your reason for rfe?

I'm not sure I can agree with that. Let's say I want to visit my friends in Poland and teach my online students from there for a week. Will I need a Polish work permit? I doubt that. Technically my job is performed where my students are.

Yeah I'm with you on this. I am the US citizen and I am 1/2 virtual (work from home) 1/2 in the office. Once in the past when I traveled out of the country I took my laptop with me and have worked for a few hours here and there (checking emails, etc.) But I'm employed/paid by the U.S. company so would think it shouldn't be an issue? I suppose I could be wrong, but I've never looked into it since I've only ever done it the one time.

The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered "Man.... Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived."

Apply for a work permit after you are married (when you apply for your green card) it takes around 3.5 months from my understanding to get.. don't work/get paid before you get it. I am sure you can help him around the house/answering calls as long as you are not getting paid and not listed as an employee- but I would be careful that immigration doesn't try to say you were working.  Its a really touchy subject I would get some legal advice on if I were you. or just don't work until you have that paper in your hands. but that's my opinion. I am not a lawyer.

Everyone does a little work from their laptops here and there.. and no one is going to go tell on them for it.. but yes it is a law. and if you are in an immigration process its really important to know these rules. just trying to be helpful :)

I also could work from my fiances home in the USA with my company I am currently working for in Canada... however I have to quit for this exact reason :(

I am going to do the same. I work for a Spanish company while living in Ukraine, and I think I don't have to stop because I won't be stealing any workplace from American citizens. The only thing he should find out before leaving is what to do with taxes.

I read somewhere that they ask you that question on the interview and it's a definite no no if you answer affirmative. You are definitely not allowed to work until you get the EAD and file for AOS. So make sure not to mention working from home until you get the official documents needed once married.

I agree with that. I've also read you can't even do things like surveys online where you get rewards, and I remember a thread from a girl that had been chosen to take part in some TV show with the husband, and everyone told her she shouldn't do it.

It seems to be quite a restrictive condition, so better to get all the facts straight than risk it 😶

Also, we should not forget that the legal procedure for us starts once we get to the US and get married. So everything we do will be under scrutiny during the AOS procedure. We might have to go to an interview (the preferred option as it's faster than not being interviewed), financial statements, etc so make sure to not brake any law, knowingly or unknowingly. I'm a lawyer in my own country so i follow rules by the letter, lol

I agree. According to the famous saying " Ignorance of the law excuses no one". And you have a really awesome profession😊
