Reasons for a Naturalization

Hey guys,

 

I'm about to apply for my dual citizenship now do I need reasons why to 'get' the American citizenship.

 

What good reasons are there besides voting? I'm Military wife too so if there are some good reasons I couldn't think about by myself yet.

 

Id appreciate every help.

So you can stop having to get Green Cards every 10 years.

 

Edit: How are you already applying for dual citizenship?

I do preparations ..plus I might be eligible for expedited naturalization due military reasons have to find out first..but having it ready to send off cant be wrong either. takes up to 6 months anyway

You're referring to the form you have to fill out in advance and send to Germany to retain your German citizenship after you apply for Naturalization right?

yep the reasons for why to keep it ..and ties to germany ..and why to have the other citizenship ..yap exactly this one

So you need to give them a reason why you want to become an American citizen?

Yes why it is better to have the citizenship than not having it..the disadvantages without the citizenship are the thing they wanna know..for everybody personalized of course..thats a pain in the .. u know were

That's a tough one. I can't really think of any disadvantages for not having the citizenship, other than voting.

citizenship.

3. Cannot serve on a jury.

I think being able to leave US for an indefinite amount of time is a good reason. Get US citizenship, go live wherever you want for the next 20 years, come back to US anytime you want and still get greeted by the CBP agent "welcome home".

I think points 1, 2 and 3 are spot on. And probably also the only reasons to get a US citizenship. For people from developing countries, a US passport to ease travel might be another plus.

 

Point 4 is incorrect. Permanent residents can get carry permits. I got mine about four months after immigrating to the US.

Is that settled case law in all federal jurisdictions? The ACLU was fighting the state of SD on behalf of a green card holder that was denied a CC permit, that was back in 2011 though.

Yes, as far as I'm aware, both USCs and LPRs are allowed carry licenses in states that have them.

Oklahoma, at least, says you need to be a US Citizen.

you don't need reasons, unless you need it for Germans. If you are overseas or going to get stationed overseas and on your husband's orders and there are some requirements met, you may be eligible to apply under 319b straight after you get your green card. If you want to be interviewed overseas, you need to be PLR for three years.
