Hello. I'm hoping for some information about North Carolina. 

 

I am assuming Noom can apply for his drivers license once he receives his EAD. Is that correct? or must we wait for AOS? 

 

Regarding the written test...I notice that North Carolina offers the written test in several languages other than English, but not in Thai. Noom is functionally literate in English, but he's confident that his reading comprehension skills are not strong enough to pass the written test. Does anyone know if North Carolina offers any accommodations for non-native speakers? or for the illiterate for that matter? And it seems that most driving schools offer behind-the-wheel driving instruction but not classroom instruction.

He can get driver license as soon as he gets his EAD card. As far as language accommodation for non-English Speakers, I don't think they offer that at the DVM because Understand English traffic laws is a part of written and driving test. I have gotten driver license in California, Texas and Tennessee, and none of those states offers language accommodation. I hope it helps.

NC offers the written exam for an automobile license in Arabic, Chinese, English, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese. Apparently an understanding of English isn't required for all immigrants. Doesn't that seem discriminatory? It is a very confusing to me.
