My daughter's boyfriend was here on a Visa.  He's in 11th grade.  Without any notice, his host family sent him and the other boy they had, back to Haiti Wednesday morning.  I am told their Visas are not expired.  They gave no notice to the boys or anyone else.  They won't give anyone any information or reasons whatsoever.  We want them back!  They were amazing students and rooted deep into the community.  My daughter's boyfriend helped a lot with younger children, teaching them how to play soccer.  They were good kids, had many friends, and belong here!  The host family took back the boys passports before they boarded the plane.  We want to get the boys back here again and have no idea how to do it or what needs to be done!  Please help me!  Where do I start and what do I need to get and do to get them back here?

I don't think there is anything you can do. They are basically strangers to you.

They would I assume have to go through the entire process again with a new host family.... Even if their visa's are not expired, I don't think anything can be done now.

Exactly what visa were they on? Like exchange student type? Definately don't think anything can be done and they would have/should have had to leave eventually really.

I'd be a bit more curious myself as to why they were sent home so quickly and abruptly, something must have sparked it. Maybe it's for the best.

I would imagine they were here on J1's?

When were they due to go back.

They would have needed their passports to get on the plane. So they could not have taken them.

Probably something happened you do not know about and them going home was considered the most expedient solution.

I believe your first step is to have a conversation with the host family.

May well be confidentiality issues.

We have been able to talk to my daughter's boyfriend and he says the family told them their visas expired and they had to leave that morning.  This isn't true though.  The family told the soccer coach they expire in May.  We think the family just got tired of being a host family.  Maybe family issues?  Nobody has a clue, and everyone tells me that the boys are ideal students and very respectful young men.  The boys have been here for just a bit over 3 years, but I don't know what kind of visas they are.  I don't know anything at all about visas, or gaining citizenship, that's what I need help with!  The boys will both turn 18 this year.  One of their teachers is willing to be the host family for the boys, but we don't know where to start the process.  My daughter's boyfriend has many full ride scholarship offers from colleges for soccer.  He has also been offered a position on a professional soccer team.  He said that he wanted to go to college instead though first, so he'd have a good education.  He has a good future ahead of him here!  I wasn't even sure if you could get a new Visa, so thank you so much because that was one of the things we were wondering.  I want to start the process and don't know how.  His teacher told me hr contacted an immigration attorney yesterday and is waiting for a response.  These boys are very loved by many of us in the community and we are willing to do whatever it takes to bring them back!

3 years?

Probably not a J1. But can not thing what else it could be, nothing really fits

The school would know what Visa they had, speak to the International Admissions Officer.

Certainly going to college is an option, F1 Student Visa, as would be normal the main issue is cost. If the resources are available quite doable. Not sure how many Colleges would offer an International Student a full scholarship.

I am intrigued, let us know what you find out.

OK, the first thing that comes to mind is where are you getting the verification that their visas aren't expired? If it turns out that their visas are, in fact, expired there is nothing you can do. The host family did the right thing.

If their visas aren't expired, it would be best to honestly find out what caused them to send them back. Could it have been a dispute with the kid's biological parents? Obedience problems? Or family issues withing the host family? Financial issues?

No offense but a lot of what you are basing this on is word of mouth and even though they were students here and developed a network of friends there is still guidelines that need to be followed. You admit you don't even know what type of visa they had. Remember, having a visa is a privilege and doesn't necessarily gives the person a right to remain here.

If there is a family that is willing to fund for a student visa for him then that would be a great option for him in the future. You can use the guides here to learn the process and requirements. Fighting for him to return without the full story is futile. Best for him to continue his schooling in his country so he doesn't miss a step until this is either resolved or other options are available.

Wishing him luck.

I will definitely post updates.  He is supposed to be an amazing soccer player.  I know nothing about soccer, but I'm told he has amazing potential.  They have featured him in articles and magazines as an upcoming soccer star.  I didn't even know they had professional soccer stuff in the U.S. until my daughter started showing me links to stuff he was featured in.  Haha.  I was in my own little world and God is yanking me out of it right now!  We family doesn't have much money but between the teacher and I, I am sure we can come up with what we need to!

You know that student visas require proofing that the student have enough money to support his education? Example for a random google college search - one year of study - 50.000$ per person. Do you have that much to give away? Plus, student visa is only TEMPORARY also.

You heard that they are great at soccer? Again, you "heard".  If he is so amazing, he can look at the sponsorship based on that.

You seem to think that immigration is a very simple process and things can be done because some people "want" them to happen.

You can't sponsor them.  The teacher can't sponsor them. I can bet that there was a serious reason why they were send back.

3 years is way too long for any student visa at a public high school.  There is a one year limit on the school and someone has to be paying the costs.  Are you talking a private high school ?  Where they refugees that maybe the petition was denied ?

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Another thought. And this is a completely different angle. If the relationship between your daughter and one of the boys is serious enough, they can continue it long distance, which will be extremely difficult but not impossible. Practically everyone you speak to on this website has been involved in a long distance relationship. The flags generally represent country of origin of the immigrant. So why I mentioned the relationship. If they continue it, learn about each other and stick with each other, maybe in the future your daughter can petition him on a K-1 Visa.
