We were married in Maryland 8 days after she arrived. We did this because my father is very ill, so that he could see her. When we went to the Social Security office in Texas for a temporary number, we were told that because we were married the "fiancee" visa no longer applied, and that we could not get a temporary SSN, for her or her daughter.

I know we need to apply for AOS, but that might take quite a while. What to do next?

Tell your wife to Go back to the ssn office with her birth certificate, passport  and a copy of your 194 without your marriage certificate. Just as a new immigrant with a k1 visa. She will qualify for ssn under a k1 visa immigrant. But your  fiance child will not qualify for ssn until the Ead is approved. Got mine in Baltimore the same way.   Good luck.
