You mean like the 40 hour week? You know the one mandated by Congress in 1940? Or do you believe we should go back to the era of 100 hour work weeks? Seeing as you have such faith in the economy to respond as necessary?

I don't know anything about soda taxes, so I comment. I do know a few people who would benefit from consuming less sugar, and anyone by extension paying health premiums, but I don't know if a soda tax is the way to go.

whats a 40 hour week.   Thats a part time job

True a good amount of the lite or diet foods and drinks contain garbage sweeteners, it's a bit of a double edged sword. Most anything that's overly sugary or fattening I try to avoid altogether, but I do make exceptions for a few things I really like and a nice cold glass of Cran-Grape juice with breakfast is one of them. The regular juice is far too sugary for me, just like any regular soda is as well so I go with the diet or lite when I do drink it.

Artificial sweeteners such as sucrolose, saccharin, and aspartame have the tendency to give people gas as well as other digestive issues.  The human body cannot metabolize them, that is why I try to stick to tea (unsweetened), water and G&Ts.

Sorry I said diet half half earlier but what I meant was "fat free"...which really isn't fat free because it has ingredients that later turn into fat. Don't ask me how they get away with that, but the thing is many of those people are on all these weight loss programs, shelling a ton of money, they're doing diet they're doing fat free they're doing this they're doing that and can't understand why they're not losing any weight. It's really all a big scam if you ask me. And yeah I didn't even get to get into all the aspartame and all those other sweeteners that are horrible for you, although the FDA will claim otherwise. Some fat is actually good for you. Obviously in moderation, but the good fat is good for us. Ever notice how like all those people that eat nothing but raw vegetables always look old, wrinkly, and way too skinny. That's because they don't get enough fat...you can easily tell if someone is consuming enough fat or not by simply looking at their skin. One of our favorite little "treats" is actually a jar of nothing but organic cacao and organic coconut oil. It's a killer combination. Coconut oil is full of fat so obviously you're not supposed to eat a whole jar of it in one day, but it's good fat for you, coconut oil is a really good thing to have a couple spoons of every day.

Like I said we usually don't tend to look at the amount of calories or fat that something has, top priority for us is to be close as possible to natural. If natural means it's got more fat or sugar than non-natural so be it. I mean when my wife has coffee(I rarely drink coffee myself and when I do it's black) she'll use organic half half with actual cream, not fat free, and let me tell ya my wife used to be a little bit overweight, wasn't her fault - alot of it was due to her medical conditions and due to the fact she fact she had to go on prednisone in the past which can make you gain weight, but she actually eats very little...I'll actually call her "birdy" because I'll tell her she eats like a bird. I swear a bird's stomach is bigger. But anyway, what we figured out happened is she probably ended up in "starvation mode" so her body was holding on to all the fat because she wasn't eating enough and wasn't getting all the nutrients she needs. Once we actually started getting her the nutrients she needs, and the right food she needs, and she started eating a little bit more too, more not less, her weight actually started dropping like a rock to the point where we were getting concerned that it is not dropping for the right reasons. I mean it got to the point where she lost about 35 pounds in 6 weeks before it started leveling off. As far as my weight goes I'm all of 166 pounds and have been for probably the last...oh god I don't even know how many years, my weight just doesn't change.

I actually know someone who drinks 12 cans of mountain dew per day - and she's a nurse! Don't get me wrong I'm not saying we don't sin when it comes to food, I sure like my treats even ones that contain corn syrup, I just make sure not to have too much of them. And I mean I love my pizza and my mac n cheese, life's too short to only eat the boring foods but we try to do in smartly. We're huge cheeseheads in this house...triple cheese quadruple cheese you name it, brutal combination to have one from Wisconsin and one from Israel in the same household, both major cheese places. Speaking of cheese and fat, take cottage cheese for example, I have to have at least 4% or it's too thin and flavorless to me. In israel they even have 9% fat cottage cheese which is incredible. Here I usually just buy the 4% but with milk for example my wife used to only do skim milk, I like 4% there too so we compromised on 2%. I have to admit that in regards to the juice even though I know I shouldn't drink that much, it's just too good, sometimes I'll do a bottle in 2 days. But I was also wrong before - it's only got 6 times more not 8. So I guess during those times I get 3 times my daily serving just from the juice, but I don't do it often, and as long as my blood work is fine, I'm good with it. A similar size bottle of regular coke still has 30% more sugar(and unlike juice it's added sugar, usually in the form of corn syrup) so it is still a better and healthier alternative for people, especially kids. Btw you should try the new oceanspray cranberry pineapple 100% juice, it's amazing. That one might not be too sugary for you. But I'm biased towards anything pineapple, whether fresh or in juice form, I love pineapples...the only problem to me with fresh pineapple is it's too much work to get into, but I still try to have some at least one a month. I also don't mind their 100% cranberry grape one, but I don't do the grape alone anymore. We used to like it, but ended up getting sick and tired of the flavor after having it many times, plus I got tired of my ####### smelling like grape juice! :D

I used to drink unsweetened tea. I just can't anymore though. I still like unsweetened black coffee though.

We do try to eat mostly natural items as well, but we are calorie counters, that seems to work best for us. We eat the things we want, but in moderation, and if we over indulge in bad things we try to make up for it in other areas. Sat night is our date night and our cheat night, we go out to eat and get what we want without gorging ourselves, but we're right back to watching what we eat on Sunday morning. I drink both my coffee and tea black, with no sugar, my wife uses half & half with no sugar. I really like the Yogi line of flavored teas, the blueberry is my favorite. I am a huge cheesehead, my wife not so much. My wife uses coconut oil in a lot of her baked goods. We both love pineapple as well, especially soaked in rum during the summer time, lol. We both gained weight after we got married, but have since lost everything we gained and both weigh less now than when we got married. I'm at 205 now and looking to get below 200 for the first time since high school.
