Hi,

my girlfriend lives in morocco, I live in the United States. I want her to eventually move here, but she has never been here. I would like to have her come visit before she just moves here.  I am wondering the following questions:

1. Is a tourist visa the easiest way to have her visit me? If not what route should we take?

2. What documents will she need?

3. How long does the process take?

3. How much is it?

i have heard some rumors abiut having a certain amount of money in your bank account, is this true? I have not read that anywhere online. Please help me out, thank you.

hi there!

the tourist visa indeed.

the other options: K1, CR1 etc all require a way bigger commitment: getting engaged then married within 90 days, being married already.  For what you need a tourist VISA is the way to go, but the thing is you can't request or influence/help her application, she has to show strong ties to her country and go through the process on her own. There's plenty information online, but the consensus seems to be you need documents that support that she is financially stable  in her country of origin (work letter, money in the bank, receipts) that she has assets (car, house) a clear propose of using the visa for tourism and a clear intention to come back. She will have to be completely honest in the interview. It usually takes a few months and every embassy is different :) it's usually 160-200 bucks last time I checked. But like I said, you guys should investigate what is the process for Morocco. Good luck!

Ignore the false rumors.

Have her apply; she submits the ds160, pays the $165 fee, and interviews. You send her nothing. She must convince the CO she has ties to her country that make her get back on a plane and return home.

Fair warning.. having an American boyfriend\fiance can be a hurdle. Are you a USC?

To be brutally honest, the chances of your girlfriend being able to visit you are very slim to none.  Unless she has money, owns property, or has an active business in her name, it's unlikely that she will be able to convince them of strong ties to her country to go back.  And once they find out that she's going to visit her boyfriend, that will be the end of that.  It's ok to try but don't get your hopes up, and if money is tight, don't waste it on a tourist visa try that has a 1 in 20 chance of getting approved.

Not everybody can visit the US unfortunately.  I know how you feel because my girlfriend (wife now) wanted her to visit me to see if she would like to live here.  We got denied twice and decided to go for the fiancé (k1) visa and luckily she likes it here and has lived here since 2008.

Lots of people visit SO's and knowing nothing about the GF's circumstances impossible to say.

Visa fee is not very much, apply and see.

the other post is more likely

since she has a bf here and has to be honest when they ask, the CO will assume she intends to come, marry and AOS (to stay)

so most tourist visas for the young do not get approved in Morocco

they approve parents more and sometimes that is a "NO go"

you really need to go and visit her

if she is muslim and you are not, she can not marry u unless you convert

muslim man can marry nonmuslim but not the other way around

not to discourage you, but plan to visit her

Would she be able to visit by herself if she was muslim?

Being a muslim is not the problem and I am sure she is muslim as she was born there

Morocco just doesn't give out many tourist visas especially to young people who have a bf or gf here

and she can not lie about that

adil went to 3 interviews and heard many who applied and not one young person was approved for a visa that he heard

i told him that a muslim woman has to marry a muslim man

most tourist visas given out in morocco are for parents who want to visit their sons or daughters

and even though there are educated Moroccans as evidenced by the young woman astrometer who helped discover the new 7 planets in trappist 1 at the telescope at the  Oukaïmeden Observatory in Morocco, most moroccans leave school early to try to work and support families and would not have the education or finances to get a student visa

visas in Morocco are just hard to get

some of us work years to get approved

3 things against this

1. probably can not get a tourist visa for moroccan

2. even to marry in US he needs to be muslim to be approved at embassy to marry muslim woman

3. they need family approval for marriage or even to visit her

Could muslim men convert to another religion if marrying a nonmuslim?

I suppose they could, the consequences are not pleasant.

Morocco[edit]

The penal code of Morocco does not impose the death penalty for apostasy. However, Islam is the official state religion of Morocco under its constitution. Article 41 of the Moroccan constitution gives fatwa powers (habilitée, religious decree legislation) to the Supreme Council of Religious Scholars, which issued a religious decree, or fatwa, in April 2013 that Moroccan Muslims who leave Islam must be sentenced to death.[201][202] However, Mahjoub El Hiba, a senior Moroccan government official, denied that the fatwa was in any way legally binding.[203]

Sure.. enact the law, then enforce it selectively.

well i dont like to give bad news but i agree with all the comments you have already received. my husband who lives in morocco applied for a visa to visit his dying sister in another country (not the us) along with his mother and they both were denied. i have learned that you need a lot of money in the bank (as others have stated) to get a visa there and that is why we have to be sponsors or they need a sponsor. his sister had to go to them in which she did. i also talked to an immigration attorney.  he stated that the embassy in morocco takes marriages more serious than engagements. although, i have seen on this site a few fiancee visas being approved, i didnt want to take the chance. the attorney said this....after you hire me we will try for the fiancee visa, if that gets denied then i will advise you to go to his country and get married and then we will apply for the spouse visa because they take it more serious. so to prevent all this, we felt it would be better to marry in morocco and apply for the visa without all the waiting game and having so much hope that the embassy will show us mercy. i have gone to see him three times so far in three years. we have done all this without an attorney. i can see the benefits of why to hire one now but it is too late as we are only a couple days away from his interview. what you could do if you want to marry her at some point, go marry her and get her a flight that is round trip for her first visit. i did feel culture shock there and i have no doubt my husband will feel the same when he arrives, Jah willing. the second year i went to him i felt more comfortable and i think it is fair to say that the first year will be hard to adjust. by the third trip i felt like i could blend in easily enough. i hope this helps.
