Can this person be my CoSponsor?

I am in the proceac of getting a CoSponsor. I know a couple people that will agree but I am very confused who can qualify evenafter reading the instructions ongje i-1864 form. I know 1 person he has 4 people staying with him and no dependants, he makes $3,000 a month at least. The adress me and my wife will stay at in USA is different than the CoSponsors. We will stay at my parents house temporarily for maybe a week until we get an apartment , there are currently 6 people already at my parents house. 

My question is can the persion I mentioned above be our CoSponsor?

The cosponsor does not have to be related to you, nor live at the same address. You will fill an I-864, and they will file an I-864. They just need to meet the income requirements for their household size: themselves + your spouse + anyone else they claim as dependents on their taxes.

I understand that part I just don't get the 125% thing. If he makes $3,000 a month what do I do with 125% just confusing to me

You need to find out what he makes annually, and then look at the guidelines here: https://www.uscis.gov/i-864p

 

For example, let's say your cosponsor doesn't have any dependents on his taxes. That would make the household size 2 (your cosponsor + your spouse). So he would need to make over $20,300 a year. 

 

If your cosponsor has two children he also claims on taxes, his household size would be 4. So he needs to make over $30,750 a year.

 

Oh, I forgot to add that your cosponsor also must be a citizen or US lawful permanent resident.

Thank you so much for your shared information re: affidavit of support.  So, to clarify cosponsor can be a relative and or friends that is a US CITIZEN.  Same address and or not, that is willing to sign the I-864 plus wiling to provide a copy of W2?  All original?  Thanks again.

They need 1040+w2 not only w2, I had to file taxes while out of the country

They can be a US citizen OR a US permanent resident. Both are acceptable.

 

The best is tax transcripts + w2 forms. If not, then a copy of their 1040 forms and w2's. 

 

You always send copies to the NVC and then bring originals to the interview with you.

Thank you so much Afortunada.  In our case, we got 4sponsors who are willing to sign the papers.

 

First sponsor, Aunt without dependent in her tax living with 2 other adults.

2nd sponsor, the other adult living with the Aunt, no dependent, not filing tax.  They will sign 1-864a

 

(We will live with them temporarily when we fly back to USA)

 

3rd and 4th sponsors living in different addresses. They will sign 1-864 right?

They are more comfortable signing documents if all of them will do it. Family assurance. Tax papers, the most recent right?
