He was asked about Russia. He said no. Either his memory is poor or he knowingly lied under oath. He could have easily said "I spoke to the Russian ambassador as part of my current duties in the Senate" or something like that.

He was asked if he had communications with the Russians as a campaign  surrogate or was aware if anyone else did. He said no. 

 

A US senator spoke to an ambassador, among the other 25 he spoke to. Hardly a smoking gun. but hey, the dems trying anything.

He actually did not say that "as a campaign surrogate" he did not have communications. He made two statements

1. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign (acknowledging that he would be considered a surrogate)

AND

2. I did not have communications with Russia

In fact you could argue his first statement is phrased in such a way that he doesn't even admit he was a surrogate. He merely states he has been called one. If he doesn't consider himself a surrogate, then how could the statement "I did not have communications with the Russians" only be applied to situations where he was a surrogate?

The articles don't indicate Jeff Sessions as a possible agent. The story is about contact between Sessions and Russian officials, about which he lied during his conformation hearings.  Maybe he didn't lie. He just presented the senate with alternative truths.

You set the bar for lying very low for Trump and company, even in the face of incontrovertible recorded proof of lying. Yet for Hillary Clinton you needed the smallest wiff of inuendo and you are off to the races.

That is the puzzling part. If his contact was part of his job, why lie to the American people? Maybe his contact with the Russian ambassador was not as innocent as we would like to think. The lies should be enough for the so-called president to ask for his resignation, if Sessions doesn't have the moral capital to resign.

As for other surrogates, all he said was he was "not aware". As for himself, he said that other people have called him a surrogate (but he did not confirm whether he considers himself one), and then proceeds to say that he did not have communications with the Russians.

He provides no caveats. he does not say "I did not communicate with them as a surrogate". He flatly denied communication with them.

As you have said in other threads, anything that is "misleading" is fake, and therefore this is fake (lie).
