I posted this as its own thread but thought it might fit in here also.

So I have a couple of questions I hope you can answer for me.

My Green card NOA extension of 1 year is due to expire in mid April and my Drivers licence is due to expire March 3rd (because the DMV refused to extend it for the full 12 months on the letter)

So my questions are what do I do about the DMV? I can't go in without any proof as they wont extend and I can't get a infopass appointment until 1 month beforehand so I have heard... and by that time my DL will be expired.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also for what it is worth I filed at VSC.

I booked an infopass appointment in Baltimore recently as I was terrified about travelling on my extension (unwarranted, I know), he said I could come back for a stamp a month prior to the expiration date on the letter. They were pretty friendly, so I'm sure if you went in and explained the situation they would give you a stamp in your passport to extend you another year. That's quite annoying about the PA DMV, in MD they gave me 10 years.

You could renew your DL now, I think it's dependent on your state, but most of states allow to renew DL 90 days before the expiration date.

I am not sure, I heard a lot and I have seen so many experiences that make me really puzzled!

But I could say "as CSC filers" we should wait until March-June, or we have to apply N400 during our I751s is still pending!

I'm a CSC filer and my extension letter is only good until sometimes in April. I'm not sure I want to file for my N400 while I already have documents pending, it feels weird although I know I can do it. The new GC should be good for 10 years so I'll probably file for the N400 some times in the next decade.

Your are right, sometimes I feel the same weird feeling, and think to wait until got my 10y GC.

But when I read so many experiences that tell us they wait for a very long time "specially filers of CSC like us" more than 18 mo and their I-751s are still pending, beside other so many experiences that tell us applying for N-400 forces your I-751 case to got a result, I feel again than I should apply for N-400 when opening my window!

For that I'm really puzzled, and let us see what we will do!

You can get an I55-1 stamp on your passport one month or few weeks before your green card 3 years expiration. The I55-1 stamp works as proof of your residency and you could renew your driver's license easily. It is hard to get an infopass appointment. Most people find a slot midnight or early morning. You need to wake up during those crazy hours to check an available slot for your appointment, Good luck.

Can anyone else share an experience with infopass? I had heard it was pretty easy until I read this post.

It is nice service but hard to get an appointment. Since they have a large number of applicants who had appointments and the service center do so much work. You have to look out for the empty slots all the time and you might get lucky to find one. Midnight or early morning is the best time to get a spot and schedule an Infopass appointment.

We're kind of in a pickle. My husband's I-751 paperwork was received March 30, 2017. His green card expires like mid-June and his passport expires July 2018. It'll take months too get his passport renewed. I'm worried if he tries to travel on his passport back to his country to get a passport (it's faster in-country), the greencard will expire before he gets it and he'll be stuck. I don't know what would happen then. Any advice?

Does he have his extension? "NOA"

He can travel with his NOA, if his trip will take more than the time that he has in his NOA my advice is:

He should take an infopass appointment, and get I-551 stamp in his currently passport, after that when he come back into US with his new passport, he must hold both of them "old&new passports" and bring them at the officer disk, I think he will be fine.

Just make sure before doing that, because I am not sure, but I think that!

Call your embassy today, and get an appointment set up for a new passport. It's probably easier and cheaper to go to the embassy, than to travel abroad. Also, it's easier to work with the embassy to get the paperwork needed for renewal, because once you don't live in a country anymore, quite often, local authorities can't or won't help you get a passport anymore.

I agree with you, especially they live in Washington DC "based the profile information" which means the embassy will be near of them.

This is great news! But on the USCIS site, it still says they are processing stuff at VSC from November 2016...
