Good morning

My GC expired on 05/27/2017 hence my extension is about to expire in 24 days.

I am in SLC and it is impossible to book an apointment on infopass so I went there this morning at 7.15  for the I-551 stamp and they told me I could see anyone that I needed a valid reason to for the stamp.

I told them my status will expire soon and I just want to get the stamp to be clear with my job and if I need to travel abroad. It was not enough for them apparently, I need to bring a letter from my job saying that they will fire me if I don't get my stamp (that sounds so weird I know). They were polite but no way for me to get in. They told me to book an appointment online.

It was just the officer at the entrance not the actual agents.

I will tried to book an apointment there otherwise just travel to another city on the 05/26...

Anyway I do not know how are your offices where you are going but be mindful and be prepared. Good luck!

Hello Everyone,

I have been searching this kind of information for several months now. A very similar situation here. My 2-year green card expires on 05/29/2017, and my extension is about to expired within a month.

Here is my story and all the information I gathered from web search. Below are the possible set of circumstances that you can not get I-155 stamp

1. At the end of March, I was on a business travel to New Orleans and made an infopass appointment at New Orleans Field Office. Since my hotel is located within 10 min walk to this office, I was quite happy that I can have this expiration issue taking cared easily. Well.. it wasn't this way. The lady at the reception desk told me that I came too early. She can not do anything at this point, if she gave me a stamp, I will have duplicate identification. Huh??? She said they (New Orleans Field Office) only work on 2-weeks time frame prior the actual expiration date. Before I made infopass appointment I even called the USCIS Service Center to double check the proper working time frame for getting I-155 stamp, and the officer over the phone told me that I can do it within 90 days prior the expiration date. This is definitely not what I experienced!!!

2. If you are not able to make infopass appointment at your designated state field office and you choose to do walk-in without appointment, you may get rejected!!! It is especially true if you cannot proof them it is an emergency!

3. If you are not able to make infopass appointment at your designated state field office and you made appointment at some other offices, you may get rejected as well! It is because USCIS recommended that you schedule your infopass appointment with the field office that serves your jurisdiction. Services are limited if you schedule an appointment with an office outside of your jurisdiction.

4. The last situation that I saw from someone's experience is that. He has been told to come bake and make an appointment for I-155 stamp after the expatriation date. WHAT?! oox##@%!

I believe the main issue is because USCIS does not have fixed policy on infopass appointment for I-155 stamp. It is all depends on the personnel in each office and you did not know until you step in.

I live in Knoxville Tennessee, and the designated office is in Memphis, which is 400 miles away (6 hour driving one way)!!! I do not want to drive there and find out I can not get stamp due to any of the reason above!! So, my personal conclusion is that I will  make infopass appointment with the field office that serves my jurisdiction in 2-weeks time frame (just to be on the  safe side), and bring a letter from employer.

Hope it helps!

Hello, any news yet, found out what those letters are about?. Sorry to bother you but We are in the same situation as you

My husband went to the infopass appointment.  I know he took his green card, extension letter, biometrics letter (for the n400), passport, and driver's license.  The officer took his green card and cut it up.  He told my husband that it wasn't needed anymore.  My husband's biometrics appointment was the next day, so they allowed him to get his fingerprints done early.   We filed our n400 online, so I think that is why it has information about it being transferred.  Some people here are saying they are joining the n400 with the I 751, so he will have a combined appointment.

We had another update today saying it was transferred again...two days later than the last notification.  It makes me happy that things are moving.

so you also filed n400 with pending ROC? Because I read in one forum saying we might have problems during the n400 interview if we couldn't show our expired greencard thats why I was asking if they took the expired greencard.

Also, up to when are we suppose to get infopass? My extension letter is valid until June 2018, can I still get it after that or do i have to get it before? I'm a stay at home mom and so far I dont have any plans to go outside the country for now.

We did file the n400 with pending ROC.  We filed online and found it to be quite easy.  (My husband is the applicant, and I'm just a support.)  When he went to the Infopass, the agent there said we should have waited to file for naturalization but not because of the greencard issue.  He said since naturalization is dependent upon the ROC being adjucated, we would probably have to call up to get the naturalization application active again.  He stated that the two applications go in different directions, so one wouldn't necessarily be connected with the other.  So, if they are ready to proceed with the naturalization, but the ROC isn't completed, the naturalization application would just go somewhere to wait.  There'd be no notification (without our call) to get it active again.

It consistently amazes me how different people's experiences are though.  People on this site have stated they had both interviews together and were approved for both on the same day.  So, I figure you just have to make the best decision you can using the information you have. We chose to file the naturalization for many reasons, but one factor was reading how many people successfuly processed both the ROC and the n400 concurrently.

We didn't know if the extension letter expired one year from the date of the letter or one year from the expiration date on the greencard (once again conflicting answers).  My husband had to go in for his n400 biometrics appointment anyway, so he scheduled the infopass to see. His greencard would have expired on June 4, but we received the extension letter a year ago in March.  My husband decided to see what they would say in April.  They did give him his i551 stamp without problems.  He is scheduled to go out of country in June, so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.

Ours is the same time frame, stating our card was mailed 4-12, but still nothing. I called & they transferred us to a tier 2 rep who wasn’t available & we have a call back requested. I also did an inquiry online & it stated we’d hear by 5-27. Just so frustrating some cards go out right away, others don’t. Good luck everyone.
