Some information for those of you where the extension of the green card is expiring soon:

1. You need to make an InfoPass appointment online via the USCIS website. New time slots become available pretty much every workday around midnight, for 2 weeks out.

I had my InfoPass appointment this morning in Seattle (Tukwila), WA

2. Make sure you bring

  • Passport
  • Your appointment letter for that InfoPass
  • Your Driver's License
  • Your I-797 (the extension letter)
  • Your I-797C (Biometric Appointment)

3. If you have MOVED since your filed, even if you filed your address change, it seems it did not link the new address to BOTH of the WAC#. So far for efficiency. The agent suggested I call USCIS to get it updated on the other WAC# as well.

4. Instead of a new letter, you will get a special stamp in your passport. Your passport stamp is valid for 6 months, not 1 year (at least here in the Seattle office). And that's 6 months from the day you get your stamp. He said you can get your stamp about 1 month in advance, so in my case, some time in August should be fine, if the application has not yet been approved by then.

5. He was not aware of transfers to the local office, he said it usually only happens for interviews. So that activity we all saw at the end of FEB 2018 may be a glitch.

Hey guys, we just received an update from USCIS.  I’m hoping this just means movement towards approval and not an interview or RFE. What I don’t get is why is it called Name Update? We haven’t changed a thing since this process started. That’s just a strange title if you ask me. Still hoping for the best.

@Lynn n Sam hey! I am an April filer, and I got the same update today.

someone on the April board mentioned that a lot of people go approved after this update. Have you gotten any update after this one?

Hey Oli_C! We’ve not heard anything or seen any movement since that update on 3/3. I had a vibe we’d hear something today (Approval?) but no such luck 🙁. Just waiting patiently or maybe impatiently 🤨

I really dont think you can get 155 in an expire passport or the stamp will likely reflect the expiration date of the passport. Everyone here is going thru the same waiting game no clue of what going on.

As frustrated as I am by this whole process (and I'm obsessively checking all the other threads to see if they're dealing with the same thing--and it's making everything worse!), I guess I take solace in the fact that we are still within the processing times projected by the VSC at least (the website still says they're on January 2017 filers). Regardless of whatever the system says on moving to local offices, I still think we're within an average wait time and I don't believe everyone is going to have an interview--it seems impossible. I guess I got my hopes up a few weeks ago when VJers seemed to be getting rapid approvals and now they seemed to have slowed (though of course, that doesn't mean that non-VJers aren't getting approvals! We just don't know about them).

Anyway, hopefully this nightmare will be over soon...

No need to panic, but you do need to take action TODAY!

1. Call your embassy, and make sure you are registered there (This means, that they know you are a citizen of their country and are residing in the US, and that they have your details. They will ask you for documentation)

2. Explain that your passport has expired, and that you need a new one urgently.

3. Make an appointment, and make sure you know EXACTLY what documentation you need to bring.

4. Gather documentation for your embassy appointment, and go do it. Remember, you may need to fly out to where the embassy is, and stay in a hotel as well.

5. Usually they can issue a new passport in a few days, but it will be expensive.

6. When you have your new passport, make the InfoPass appointment and make sure you have all that documentation too.

7. Do the InfoPass and get your new stamp. At the same time, ask the agent to update the database with your new passport details.

8. Get new driver's license.

Do we know what percentage of case will be chosen for interview per month? Like if there were 5000 cases filed in March 2017, how many will be picked out approximately?

There is no percentage. If there are red flags that were not sorted through RFE, or cannot be sorted through RFE, that application will be sent for interview. There is no "we automatically take 3% of applications at random" rule.

Call your local office and speak with an officer. They will inform you on what steps you need to take. (Passport size photo and I-94). Or instead of embassy try a consulate here in the U.S.. They would require you to mail docs and payment( Jamaican consulate does this if you are not in the states that they are located). Google and call, get informed before making decision. This is just my opinion

Wait - really?

I moved shortly after filing my ROC and updated using the only form. Should I call to confirm? Should I run the form again to make sure with both addresses?

AOS:

NOA: June 16th, 2014

NPIW: September 29th, 2014

Received Green Card: June 13th, 2015.

RoC:

California Service Center

Submitted: March 22nd, 2017

Completed: October 5th, 2018

N-400:

Submitted: December 11th, 2019

Biometrics: December 31st, 2019

Interview: April 22nd, 2020

Interview descheduled and now waiting for further updates...

That's what my agent told me. The sync between all their databases is not that great, it seems, and they cannot update it locally, you have to call the USCIS 800 number for that, and have both WAC# ready.

I see, so even with the notice of "your case has been transferred to local office", but no RFE request then no chance of being interviewed? And thank you for the above answer.

It's the agent's discretion to determine if an RFE would resolve the "red flag" or unclarity, but I assume they can decide to forward your application directly to your local office for an interview, without RFE, if they feel that is the better approach.
