Hello,

My husband is from Honduras. We requested for his birth certificate ( Folio del Libro de Nacimiento) to send to NVC; however, it is hand written. On the travel.state.gov website it shows n example of how this folio should look. Where my husband is registered they said since he was born in 1981 it is handwritten. Has anyone come across this? Will NVC close our case if we send this in?

Some countries don't have enough organisation when is about this kind of things. I know because in Venezuela happens almost the same since the government change constantly the format's.

I would suggest you to ask for one again, and this time make clear to them that is for international use, they add like special letters to the handwritten. After you get it, try to ask for an apostille for it, even when is not necessary for USA, it may help you to give extra validation to your documents.

Hi Solecito! Im going through the same EXACT thing with my parents.. Im a USA citizen and want to bring my parents here I already sent the DS260 and documents BUT on Friday I recieved an email saying that they cannot use the birth certificate I sent for us from my country that they want the copy of folio but they are different from what the sample they sent me, mine and my mother's is handwritten, atleast my father's it is typed, they went to the capital Tegucigalpa but they said there is nothing they can do since that sample that they ask for is only available for people born after  yr 1999 or 2000 I think.... I read your husband got an interview does that mean they accepted the handwritten birth certificate? I would appreciate it sooo much if you could reply Im feeling so anxious ! :'(

My husband handwritten certificate got accepted with no issues. We actually just got back from Honduras as his visa was approved. At the US consulate the day of his interview they also asked him for his folio and accepted the handwritten form as well

Wow that is wonderful news!! Thank you so much for your quick reply! I just sent in the certificates hopefully we don't have to wait another 11 weeks to get answered but it is such a relief to know that the handwritten ones get accepted ... congrats!!! :)

I was wondering this too! We got a checklist for wrong birth certificate but we now have the folio one they want but the blanks are filled in hand written is this what yours looked like? Also the only difference in my husbands and the example is on the right hand side it does not list grandparents like on the example. Iv been told it's because he was born in 87 . Was yours like this?

Hi!

We recently got paperwork back from the USCIS saying we needed another birth certificate. My husband is from Honduras. We sent the  certificación de acta de nacimiento. We have found a copy of his folio, but it is handwritten and is a little different that what we are seeing online. It is not long form and all we have is a copy, not the original. Does this get approved? We are currently getting it translated.

Never send originals . only copies. You will need originals for the interview. The handwritten should be fine!

Also make sure the seal is included with what you send. Ours was on the back so be sure to send a copy of the back if its on there.

What ever came about with the 1981 hand written folio from Honduras? My husband was born in 1985 and his certificate is a bit different as well. It is handwritten and on the top right it mentions multiple births rather than grandparents like the example. It was rejected and after my lawyer called they said it was because it is not the same. She explained it was from 85 and that's how it was done in 85. They suggested she try to send it again.

I am getting extremely frustrated and am ready to quit.

In reply to my own question, the hand written document was finally accepted.
