Immigration officer calling spouses?

My 5 cents: yeah they can call. When i went to uscis once our officer came to see me and asked when we can come back for a 2nd interview, i wasn't sure at first because of my husband's schedule, so she said "ok give me your phone number i'll call you tomorrow".I ended up just picking the date and not giving her the number, because knowing them - she would never call even though she said she would Lol.

For AOS interview waiver cases they distribute cases to field offices, paying no attention to where you live e.g. I live in Ohio and my AOS case was adjudicated by the Newark field office in NJ. Maybe they have started this for ROC cases? Nothing would surprise me where USCIS are concerned. Googling the full number is a good place to start your investigation.

My husband said that he only introduced himself as an IO from USCIS. No specific field office mentioned.

It's strange and a bit sketchy, but yes, this does happen rarely. An interview is not always required. However, I would still suggest verifying the information with USCIS...it wouldn't be the first time a "friend" (aka scorned ex or similar) tried to get people to skip their interview.

Not sketchy or weird at all.  You need to ask yourself, who would know you filed for AOS?  The answer most likely,  almost no one except for some very close friends and relatives.  So it's 1. A really cruel prank from some one close.  (I highly doubt this.) Or 2.  USCIS since they would be the only ones who would know you are filing.  But like others have said 1 phone call to USCIS to verify no interview needed is a wise thing.

Also consider the fact that you do give a phone number during the application process. It must be for a reason...

When is your interview scheduled for? Did the person calling give you their Agent ID# (every time I have talked with an officer over the phone, that’s the first thing they gave me). I highly recommend contacting USCIS and ask to speak with a Tier 2 officer and explain the phone call. They can tell you if it’s legit. It’s an hour or two of your time, but then you’ll have a clear answer. I wouldn’t trust that phone call until I had something in my hand or confirmation on the website that my application was approved.

I would probably go to any interview scheduled anyway. Worst case, they'll tell you to buzz off.

Hi all! I am happy to report that I have received the approval letter in the mail today, just like what the IO told my husband over the phone  it was dated Feb. 28th. Just waiting for my greencard in the mail. Hopefully any day now!! Yay!!! 

 

So yes, this is to confirm that they do call spouses/petitioners. We are living proof! Lol

Yes! If it helps, the area code that called was 479. My husband also doesn't usually take calls that are not in our contact list but for some reason he answered that specific call! Ha!

My USC spouse also got couple calls from USCIS which she was unable to answer. However, they were the standard 800 number. Interestingly, I had already received the approval letter in mail when she got the calls.
