Immigration officer calling spouses?

I am a June 2016 filer. An immigration officer called my husband yesterday afternoon. I am currently out of the country in Manila and will return on Saturday. He verified if i still live with him. Of course, my husband said yes. The IO said that he sees all looks good. He called to say that we are approved on the spot and that he cancelled the interview since we have been interviewed already during AOS. He ended the conversation saying that we are approved and that everything should be mailed to us by this Friday and that I can apply for citizenship in June. 

 

Have you guys heard of any incidences where IOs call spouses??? I've never heard of such stories before that is why I am really confused. Is the call legitimate??? If it helps, the area code of the phone number used to call my husband is 479 - from Forth Smith, Arkansas. We live in Southern California.

 

Thoughts please???

I've read immigration officers visit homes during the ROCs but haven't heard of calling and asking questions. maybe they are testing alternative ways to speed up the process and eliminate interviews.

I hope so! But I really do think it's odd. 

 

I wonder why the area code was from Arkansas though. I thought they process ROC in california? Or do they distribute it around to field offices?

Did you google the full number to see if its really from a USCIS office?

 

For AOS interview waiver cases they distribute cases to field offices, paying no attention to where you live e.g. I live in Ohio and my AOS case was adjudicated by the Newark field office in NJ. Maybe they have started this for ROC cases? Nothing would surprise me where USCIS are concerned. Googling the full number is a good place to start your investigation.

Usually when USCIS calls anybody it will be from a hidden number. I find it very weird.

That's strange. Did he introduce himself as Officer xyz from USCIS Fort Smith field office?

Googling a number doesn't always work, especially if they have direct lines. I work for a cable company and if you were to Google my direct line or my main office number, you would not get any hits.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

 

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

 

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

September 28th 2016: Package delivered
September 30th 2016: Check cashed
October 3rd 2016: NOA1 received with receipt date of 09/28/16
November 3rd 2016: Biometrics received with appointment date of 11/14/16.
November 14th 2016: Attended biometrics appointment
October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

March 15th 2018: ROC approved. 535 days (1 year, 5 months and 17 days)

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

For my AOS (2.5 years ago) I also received a call (I am the petitioner) from an IO asking for my wife at home, she was unavailable (I was at work and I was sure she was sleeping soundly at home), and I told them so, then the IO asked me about my car (??) and to describe it... which was weird, since I drove to work with it, but the IO told me they would reach a decision soon. Within a couple weeks my case was approved.

The way scammers are stealing ID's why would anyone answer persoal quesitons like this on the phone

anyone who calls me even asking for donations for the police department, i say " come to my door and prove your ID and then we will talk"

May seriously be from USCIS but why take chances?   Why not say "you can not prove your ID on the phone, so i would rather  we keep the appointment"

Even those surveys are not always legit but fishing for information to scam

Waiting to skip ROC and get 10 yr GC due to over 2 year while pending AOS
AOS APPROVED Oct. 4, 2017 * Green card in hand Oct 13, 2017 !!!!!

First K1 denied after 16 month of AP. Refiled. We are a couple since 2009. Not a sprint but a matter of endurance.
