Great speech. Pundits are saying it was his best ever. IMO the democrats should have just stayed home. They made fools of themselves.

It was clear he was reading directly from teleprompters.  I have never seen him so stiff, rehearsed, and fake.  

He, once again, made very misleading statements and took credit for things he had absolutely nothing, nada, zero to do with.

To be honest Obama did that too and that was my problem with Trump's speech. I felt like I was watching Obama all over again  I'm not saying Obama didn't give good speeches(he sure acts more "natural" reading from a teleprompter) but there are certain things I am picky about and they both failed that test with me.

True and yes Obama was much more natural.  I've watched trump before.  He never seemed like he was reading anything.  He always seemed to just be speaking naturally.  Not that I always liked what he said but it did seem very natural.  Last night was not that at all.  Looks like they have reined him in a bit and made him follow a set speech.  I will admit he seemed much more presidential and less of an embarassment.  i can deal with that trump.....other than all his BS.

I think there's two sides to it though. The positive side is he was more "presidential" but it also means they turned him into alot more of a politician in a bad way(case in point some of the dumb bs he told us all last night, like I said not that Obama or Bush for that matter were any different, but it's Trump we're talking about, he's not supposed to "conform" to politics as usual). He did make some speeches in recent months where he was reading and you could tell he was, so you must have only seen the ones where he wasn't...I just would have thought he'd get a little better at it by now, you know, it's not that hard to remember more than 3-4 words at a time

Every president, politician, and pundit makes misleading statements. That's a given. I would say the bar is so low for him that any coherent statement will always be a plus. Whatever he said last night ultimately doesn't matter. America will judge him by his actions, and he's done plenty of damage in his short time in office. It will only get worse.

Lol  That is very possible!  I can't take much of him and honestly do not watch him alot.  I did go his rally here in my city and watched the debates.

In my opinion, to think someone can be President, have to deal with all those congressmen, and not become political is very unrealistic.  When he used to say that, I thought then, it will never work.  Congress is all about politics.  There is no way of skirting that if things are going to get done.  He was going to get sucked into it.  I never doubted that for a minute.  I was really surprised his supporters believed that.

I don't remember Obama making these sweeping misleading statements and taking credit for things he had nothing to do with.  I didn't always agree with Obama either, but he didn't seem like a blatant liar to me like trump is.   I could be biased though.  I'll admit I liked Obama very much.  Coolest President ever!

I commend him for acting more Presidential, and in that regard the speech went well.

 

However it is important to keep in mind how low that bar is that he was able to "hurdle".

Every president is relatively fact checked after such speeches, and Obama did have some duds from time to time. That's just the business of the game though. Trump is indeed blatant about what he does, and is proud of it. But like I said, the bar is so low for him that he could have stuck a cardboard standee at the podium with a recording and came out okay.

My sister in law's husband is a big Trump fan and went to his rally in Wi. The funny thing is he would have liked Bernie though had he ran, but in lieu of Bernie preferred Trump over Clinton. And the man is far from a socialist(next to him I'd be considered one) but liked Bernie for some of the stuff him and Trump actually have in common. It's a really weird link. I'm not saying I necessarily believed that he would not change, but you never know if someone's going to be the first or not until you wait to find out so it was more a benefit of the doubt kind of thing. I'm not disappointed or surprised at all, but my personal "approval rating" of him since he got in office has definitely gone down.
