Getting married in USA

Hi. I'm a Filipina who resides in Singapore. I was married in the Philippines and currently working on my divorce here in Singapore. Once it's granted, can i marry my boyfriend who is a US Citizen? I have a valid B1/B2 Visa so i can go to US anytime. I'm worried because I was told that divorce is not honored in the Philippines.

There is only annulment for philippines. Also, going to to the us with the intention to marry on a tourist visa is a visa fraud.

 

Why not file for a k1 visa?

There is only annulment for philippines. Also, going to to the us with the intention to marry on a tourist visa is a visa fraud. Though it is "forgiven" if you marry a USC and adjust. However, personally I would opt to do it properly with a k1 or cr1.

Thanks Melonshake. It's just happened that i hv a tourist visa and marrying in USA is not the purpose when i applied for that visa. Was just checking if divorce in Singapore is acceptable in US.

Don't do it if you don't want trouble with your case. It does not matter what was the purpose of your visa when you obtained it, it matters that you are knownly is going to misuse your visa. It's visa fraud. This is not a spouse or fiancée visa. You will have to prove that you didn't intend to get married when you traveled there. Will you be able to do it?

It's not intent to marry and stay when you first APPLY for the visa that is fraud, it is anytime you enter the US with the intent other than tourism. When the officer at point of entry ask you what is your purpose of your trip and you say, "Just going to Disney World and return home." But instead you have made arrangements to marry your BF in the US and stay...That is what is meant by fraud.

Are you still a Philippine Citizen?

 

If you are, your divorce will not be recognized in the Philippines meaning you are still married there. Lookup the family code.

If you are to do your process in Singapore they will surely look for your CENOMAR and marriage record from ROM whether its K1 or CR1. As mentioned by others coming here with a tourist visa with the plan to marry is a fraud and you could have a lifetime ban for it. Not sure about getting divorce in Singapore when you are married in the Philippines, unless your first husband is Singaporean then he can file for divorce in SG and have it acknowledged by the Philippine court. But if your previous husband is also a Filipino then only legal way is annulment.
