It is optional .Since you sent your application before April 18th which is the deadline to file taxes for 2016  ,you don't have to send the 2016 tax return ,but if you had mailed them after April 18th then you should send the 2016 tax return too.

Hello! Some people already answered your question, but we did the same. We sent my husband's 2015 tax return (2014 & 2013, as well, just in case) because he hadn't filed tax for 2016 yet.

Uhoooh...I just realized that I only sent my husband's tax return from 2015 but not a written statement from his employer. Oh boy...here's to an RFE.<_<

I  could have sworn that an actual written statement is not required as it is for the K1 application.

As for as I know, it's not actually required. You do however need to submit evidence that supports the tax return / I-864. What that is can vary from case to case. An employer letter is just one out of a few ways.

I only sent the I-864 with his tax return from 2015. I just wait and see if  USCIS gets back to me.

Quick update on my case.

My paperwork was returned to me, I had an error on my I-485. I corrected it and re-sent all the document back to Chicago Lockbox (this time I added "Chicago Lockbox" ;)). I really hope they checked all the other documents as well (they all had prints at the bottom of the page, so I assumed they did), so everything should be fine now. Since my work permit expires on May 19 and there's not chance of them  processing it on time under normal circumstances I attached a latter with the request to expedite my EAD application. I based my request on the fact that my husband just lost his job and my income is the only one for our hausohold. Also I mentioned I work for a non-profit organization and recently got promoted, so it would be not only hard for me and my husband, but also for the company I work for to wait through the time of my not having the EAD

I was very upset yesterday evening when I found the package in mail, but maybe it was an opportunity for me to add the letter for the EAD to be expedited? I don't know. Keep your fingers crossed for me, and those of you that do pray- please keep me in your prayers. I could really use any help I can get right now ;)

Package re-sent 03/25

Expected delivery 03/27

Once again, good luck everyone!

Hi Did they text/email you that you will be receiving your returned package when they sent it back to you? Good luck on everything.

Hi I got my AOS whole package delivered at Chicago lockbox on March 3rd (mailed out on the 1st). Till now on March 23rd, I havent got any receipt notification yet from them. Its been 20 days. I am so frustrated!!! I sent them an email the day before yesterday, but no response yet. I saw a couple of persons here filed theirs at the same time, and got receipts almost 10 days after. What should I do? Is there anyone havent got receipt yet???

i think you can call USCIS after 30 days.

EDIT: people don't recommend sending a new application, it causes complications and they might cancel your both applications.

I called them last Friday...One operator transferred me to an immigration officer, and then autovoice said they will call back to me or I can wait in line for 280 minutes. Then nothing, no one called me back. ...

You have to wait 30 days until they can help you. Don't sent out a new application now. If USCIS tellsyou to send a new one for whatever reason then you send a new application but not now.

Did USCIS receive your application?
