I'm adjusting from a K-1 Visa but my local office is also NYC. Unfortunately, the office is one of the most backlogged ones in the country. I'd try and prepare for a long wait until you get an interview appointment and just be happy if you happen to get one sooner rather than later. I'm still stuck on "Fingerprint Fee Received" since the beginning of March so I'm not sure if I'll even have an interview.

We're still stuck on the "Fingerprint" status since we received NOA1. No movement since then...and we're in the Philly area. Based on USCIS processing times for I-485 applications in our area, the wait for an interview is around 7 months. I'm hoping we get an interview waiver because ours is a K1 adjustment and the wait for those seems to be about the same as that for an interview here.

No. Since you live in Florida the Sacramento office in California can't do much for you. Try the Thallahassee office. The DMV is federal but the licenses are all different per state. Hope this helps.

This is patently false.

DMV/BMV's are run by the state in which you reside. The federal government does not have any role in their operation whatsoever.

Wow excuses me. I was just going of what my husband said. And even though it might have been false about the federal thing, people in other states can't help people in other states about their DL because it's all different. That was basically the point I was trying to get across.

But thank you for correcting me in the way you did, maybe next time you can do it in a bit nicer way and maybe say something like: hey your mistaken it is this or this.

Here too. My office (Sacramento CA) is still processing paperwork from October. How do you know if the wait for a waiver and interview is the same? You got me curious. I hope I get a waiver too, my husband has a hard time getting time off work.

I honestly don't think this member was trying to be rude. The government can be very confusing. It's important that the correct info is out there for those that follow these boards. I've found these boards to be so helpful and informative 😊

Exactly! I know the many levels and intricacies of the US government can be extremely confusing, even for those of us born & raised here! I only post here on VJ to be helpful, whether it's asking a question or providing some insight based on my own experience. I myself never tolerate bad behavior and I would expect others to call me out on such behavior if I myself was engaging in it!

My understanding is that waivers typically take 6 months to process based on what I've read here on VJ. I'm assuming that's highly variable based on workloads and processing times at NBC/MSC in conjunction with your local USCIS office. If anything, I'm very glad we applied for EAD/AP because that at least gives my wife some sort of official ID with her married name. (Right now, all she has is her passport and that's in her maiden name.)

Definitely not trying to be offensive/combative. There's just no room for that kind of behavior here on VJ, to be honest. I hope you understand that my intent was to clear up confusion around driver licensing in the US. Most countries (if not all?) license their drivers at the national level so it's understandable that immigrants to the US would assume it's the same here. It's not...and that's gotta be frustrating for someone already trying to understand USCIS's wacky processes, let alone state laws and regulations. I want to be sure that people aren't wasting their time comparing notes about something that varies widely from state to state. If anything, that kind of conversation might be best suited for the Moving to the US and Your New Life In America forum

While you may not have a need to leave the country right now, it would be wise to have an EAD/AP combo card in case that need were to arise in the future.

Also, this thread is for people who filed for AOS back in March. If you're looking for filing advice, there is the Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from Family Based Visas forum.
