But, my tax return. I filed "Married but Separately" and put "NRA" under spouse's SSN. I read and heard mixed response about putting NRA so was tensed about it but now I'm not.

 

I hope I can say "Approved" for my NVC case soon too

 

 

 

we did the same on my hubbys tax return.  All of my reading said this was correct, glad to hear it is.

Did she give you any of the paperwork that was sent to her after they received your case at NVC?  It's printed on the first document email they send you.

I hope this isn't true, as I had to get 3 diff police certs from different countries, at quite a cost. What's the normal validity on them?

I am not sure the valid date for police certificate

but I only update the police certificate where I still living in

(if I didn't live in that country, I don't think I need to update them)

If they were obtained more than a year ago, they are considered invalid and you will need new ones. If not, you're good to go

Your taxes should be okay - IRS confirms it in their publication (Chapter 2, Page 22):

Quote

Enter your spouse's full name and SSN or ITIN in the spaces provided. If your spouse doesn't have and isn't required to have an SSN or ITIN, enter “NRA” in the space for your spouse's SSN. Use the Married filing separately column of the Tax Table or Section C of the Tax Computation Worksheet to figure your tax.

However, this is only valid when you are filing Married filing Separately without an exemption for your spouse.

If you are filing either Married Filing Jointly or if you are filing Married Filing Separately with an exemption for your spouse, you would need to enter a SSN or TIN for them.

Oh no.  I can just imagine an angry visa center employee slamming my case file down, fuming at a stale cup of cold coffee while contemplating whether they should simply issue an RFE for the hell of it.  The horror.

i am on my 10th week and 4 days today, do triple check your files before sending them, dont forget to sent all documents in one package, write your case number on each pages except ofcourse the document cover sheet,

It's on the list in "submit supporting documents" on their website, as well as the document cover sheet for NVC.  I hope for your sake your lawyer knows something we don't.

In my case lawyer include a copy of  police certificates  in Spanish and we did not need translations but we need to include them in the package since nvc will send all the docs to the consulate and my husband will need to bring originals to the interview, also I suggest read this

There is section call document finder and you can find out if you are required to send them

As a general rule, any document that is listed as “available” on the Document Finder tool must be reviewed by a consular officer. Failure to obtain all required documents will delay your case.

Are you not planning to include 2016 tax returns with IV package?

If so, you will have to file for extension, as 15 April will be the last date for tax filing and your ITIN may not be available by then. If you're planning to hold off sending your IV package until you have your ITIN and 2016 tax returns, don't apply for police certificate until you have your ITIN. PCC is usually available in 2-3 days since you apply for it. You just have to schedule an appointment for passport Seva Kendra and generally you will get your certificate at the end of appointment.
