An office has several IO officers. Once the person is in-line, his file is sent to local office and assigned to an officer.

Every officer has different speed, and different complexity of case. Some officers zip through interview in 5 mins. My interview was 30 mins, and most of it was me watching the clouds outside thinking whether its going to rain or not, with some interruptions by the IO asking very specific questions. And my file was quarter of an inch thick. Some other files on IO's desk were 1.5 inches thick!

It's a good thing to be "in-line" after fingerprinting!

It's a good thing to be "in-line" after fingerprinting!

I do not believe unless I see some evidence. It would not make sense to assign an officer so early. I would say a common pool of applications per field office would make much more sense, they same way it works in many places where you get your e.g. driver's license. You are standing in one line to whoever is available first, not in as many lines as there are windows (same rule is in Social Security offices).

 

Not to mention that an officer who processes cases at 50% rate of another one would raise eyebrows and management should ask questions about a job performance.

I do not know anything about internal workings of USCIS. I am trying to figure them out from the empirical data available. If you have some knowledge that you do not extract from the same data, then it would be great if you could provide some external sources so we could learn too!

I understand how this technology works but it's not bulletproof but then again nothing really is and this is why at least for the sake of appearance you'd think there'd be a little more diligent with the process. They may be running biometrics data through the FBI database but what about state and local? People slip through the cracks, it happens all the time. Look at how many people get on planes despite being on no-fly list. 

 

Neither of us knows what really goes on during the background checking process so we can't really debate whether or not the process is sufficient. However, even if we did know exactly how the process is conducted I think there'll still be difference in opinions on sufficiency.

To my fellow applicants at the Raleigh-Durham, NC field office. Have any of you heard any updates after fingerprinting? I had my fp on April 24, 2017 and i have mot heard or seen any updates since. Also the n400 for the fo shows December 7, 2016 applications.

Finger prints done on April 20th/17. Haven't heard a sh..t from them since then. This is frustrating.

I tried calling the support center regarding this. Apparently they see what we see. I was told it may take upto 8 months to complete the process so at this time it is just a wait period.

I am a Raleigh applicant and I do not have any updates since fingerprinting (not even "in-line", whatever it means). The relatively recent processing date published on the USCIS web page for Raleigh is a good news since it will enable us with capability of placing service requests sooner.

 

BTW, I have posted a few short reports on the number of pending applications in Raleigh in this thread:

 It appears the office is somewhat flooded by applications submitted in the first quarter of 2017 and seriously backlogged due to low number of processed applications in the last quarter of 2016. My estimate is 9 months of processing time for March submitters.
