Hello All,

Both me and my wife attended the oath ceremony today. Raleigh has a nice small ceremony with a room capacity of around 40-50 people. The whole ceremony took around 60 minutes, but since it started late it actually took 1.5 hour(s). It was a slightly stressful event for us, since we came with our 3-year old daughter and she is very energetic. It was fine, we survived, the 3-year old was quite interested in what is going on and we enjoyed the event. I hope all of you (those waiting) will reach that stage soon!

I was surprised how well organized the whole thing was. Each chair had an envelope with "citizenship welcome materials" and I pointed out to my wife how well it was all aligned, exactly the same way on every chair! It really looked neat. They distributed the certificates extremely quickly. When they seat people they collect green cards in the order reflecting seating and then let new citizens stand in a line, while they were ready with a prepared stack of certificates matching the order of collected green cards. I think they distributed the certificates in about one minute!

President's Trump welcome speech was nice, in his style, but still welcoming and warm.

congrats to the both of you :jest:

Hello everyone good morning! we applied mid march, Ive to check the exact date. Biometrics was in April and have been in line for interview since April 18th. We would be going thru the Oakland Park FL office. I am guessing that my husband will get an interview before Dec. Question: his Jamaican passport expired do you think It would cause an issue if we renewed it in case he has to travel home in the meantime? We did not expect the process to go this long this time.

Make sure your husband is aware of how long it takes to renew his passport. Some countries require that the expiring/expired passport be submitted with the renewal forms (which is then returned with the new passport). I have seen countries that take up to 3 months to issue a new passport because the embassy sends the applications back to the home country for processing. That means that there's a potential that the applicant can be without his/her expiring/expired passport for up to 3 months which will be a problem if the interview is scheduled before the expiring/expired passport + new passport is returned to applicant.

Find out what the process is and how long it takes for Jamaica and make an informed decision.

Any updates on your status BronxRN?

Our timelines are very similar. Had fp on 3/27, and no updates since. Been told that it is still in background check, but have been unable to speak with L2 officer. Good luck to us both!

Hey not a single word as of today. I am so done with this. I have cancelled my vacation plans for Xmas over seas.

HI OmaNE2, It's hard waiting for sure. Hope that you hear something soon. When looking at USCIS processing times for Omaha the page says as of August 31, 2017 at the top of the table; however, I think that's the processing time as of October 13, 2017 - see the date below where it says last updated. So it appears Omaha is processing a couple of weeks ahead of NYC and may be working on apps received February 27th currently judging from last update.  It seems like we should both reasonably expect to hear something in the next 3-4 weeks. If I don't hear something before Thanksgiving, I'll start thinking my app. is seriously stuck. Best of luck to you too!

I interpret the processing times data differently. According to this link: https://www.dhs.gov/news/2017/01/17/uscis-announces-new-approach-posting-processing-times, they say

Quote

There generally is a 45-day lag between the processing time information and when it is posted to the USCIS website.

This is consistent with what the web page says. If Raleigh processing times page says that it is February 27, 2017 as of August 31, 2017, it means that this processing time reflects the situation as it was on 08/31, not as of the time when it was posted on the web site (which was on October 13, approximately 45 days later). The processing times as of today could be only estimated and would be approximately April 27 (the date posted "as of" August 31 plus two months that have passed since then).

Thanks for the information. Based on that I'm 60 days over normal processing times and can contact the Ombudsman.

Thanks @casualuser. I agree on what you said. I have a friend who applied in May in the same FO and he received the interview letter a week ago. His application was based on marriage (though after 5 years) and mine is based on political asylum. The L2 officer told me that my application is with in the normal processing time of 9 months, which I do not get what 9 months she was talking about. Have you ever heard or read something like that?

Best regards,

Nope. I think various fora have it well documented, in what people report, that the information which L2 officers provide is inaccurate and misleading. It is possible it is a well-organized policy of minimizing litigation costs for USCIS. After all, if you believe that your application is within normal processing time you will not complain to ombudsman or your representatives, and you will not seek judicial relief.

I am very very upset and worried. USCIS left me a voicemail saying that my interview on 11/16 was cancelled and rescheduled for 12/11, but it was never specified what time. The lady said I would receive a notice. Did anyone experience anything like this? #######?!

That’s awful, but at least they rescheduled it for you.

I have seen people on www.trackitt.com reporting interview cancellations. Although it is very terrible that they canceled yours, a good sign is that they rescheduled it right away. It could be some issues in a local field office (too many people got sick, some other urgent issues they had to process, so they run behind the schedule).

I hope it’s just because they are running behind. It just made me worried because the voicemail didn’t provide the reason. I will wait a week and see if anything shows up in the mail. If not I will have to call them. Let the fun begin.
