Evidence of engagement?

Form DS-156k says that she needs "evidence of engagement". She really doesn't want me spending money on a ring, so I'm wondering if anyone else has used something other than a ring as evidence.

We of course did the letters of intent to marry.

I believe it is the "Letter of Intent to Marry" that is the evidence of engagement. I know a new one must be submitted again for the interview.

yes a letter of intent wud be fine...plus pictures and all to really prove to them that u are on.. goodluck!

We had no interest in engagement rings either. I think the signed statements of intent should be enough or else we'd be in trouble!

Letter of Intent/Proof of ongoing relationship etc...

In some countries (based on what I've read) this requirement extends to engagement party, photos, attendees, etc. One should always check the Embassy Reviews and/or the Regional Forum for confirmation.

Well my fiance bought engagement rings and I accidentally lost mine on my second trip to Egypt. We did not realize it until right before it was time for me to go and so he had no time to replace it. So, I guess we will just use the ring receipts. I wish we would have taken a picture of our hands with each wearing our ring.

Besides the letter of intent to marry, we have signed proposal of marriage and acceptance letters the day that my fiancee gave me the ring... We didn't have an engagement party because he proposed to me in bed, still in pajamas, when I woke up one morning...

Receipts are probably even better than the ring.

I put my package together before I found VJ. After reading around here, I think I sent more than what would've really been necessary (but better a bit too much, I suppose - I don't think we sent TOO much).

This is what I sent:

-signed letters of intent, from me and him, per the instructions (which I at first thought needed to be some long, involved thing, rather than the few short sentences that are really the point. I found examples elsewhere on line, and ours were short, sweet, and to the point).

-a copy of the ring receipt (felt a bit wrong for asking for it, but what can you do - i needed the receipt anyway eventually for the insurance and since the government seems to use money and spending as a short-hand way to prove a lot of things, figured it couldn't hurt.

-a letter from my father saying that the family looked forward to welcoming a new in-law.

-photocopies of some cards given to us by friends, family, and coworkers.

Again, I think all you actually NEED to send are the original, signed statements of ability/intent to marry. But if you have some other stuff, you can include it. Don't go hog wild and give them too much paper to lug around - but some stuff is probably fine. Whatever you might have that would be a normal indication of being engaged in either of your countries.
