To be honest, there weren't even any good Oscar movies this year. My wife has been wanting to watch Fences for a while so we watched it last weekend and it was very disappointing. Only movie that I actually liked(which wasn't nominated for anything) was Loving(about Loving vs. Virginia)...other than that boring time for movies it seems.

I had it one but only watched the end, so I guess I was counted.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I don't even understand how 30 million people can watch it. I wonder how many actually watch the whole thing and how many "tune in" 5 minutes before it's over to see best picture. Most of the show is long and boring.

I much prefer the Tony's (which have much lower viewership) because each musical nominated for Best Musical performs during the show, which at least adds some entertainment value.

It's all about timing. End of February, most people are home because of cold weather, there's nothing else to watch (no football, no baseball). Depending on the political atmosphere people tune in to see if Hollywood has a word to say. Women love the red card show. Men love to see who wears the deepest cleavage.

I personally like the opening monologues and if I can stay awake like to see who wins the best actor/actress/director/movie. This year, I fell asleep at around 9:30. :)
